First of all there's no need for TECO to do this. They find this out routinely (whether you have reconnected your disconnected service LOL) as they read your meter every month or so. Tampa Code enforcers do their code enforcing SELECTIVELY. They walk right by gang-stuff that is perpetrated by the city to write vindictive and selective code enforcement for neighboring homes. This interview includes comments from two select individuals. I assure you had they interviewed ANY liberals or anyone else besides the two selected for this article many objections to this behavior would be made. There is open-air drug dealing, rapes, murders, and the police are going around with animal control and TECO on unnecessary and unwarranted 'sweeps'. Whatever.
Before creating crime they should consider solving the crime that they have on record. (rapes unreported, murders counted as fun, etc....)
Oh, that's right ... they don't report nor agree that there is an increase in crime. IS THIS why they are out 'creating' crime???
Oh, and I'm also wondering why I haven't heard of any of these sweeps in SOUTH TAMPA??? hmmmmm??? I've heard of them in East Tampa, North Tampa, Sulphur Springs, Town n Country.
Besides the fact that it's WRONG --- it's SELECTIVE.

Sweep Of Neighborhood Cracks Down On Violators

TAMPA - Thieves, careless pet owners and trash dumpers in northeast Tampa were under the eyes of more than law enforcement Wednesday morning.
One of the city's poorest neighborhoods was the site of a door-to-door tour by Tampa Electric Co., officers from Hillsborough County Animal Services and Hillsborough County Code Enforcement, Tampa police and staff from the city's sanitation and solid waste departments.
They looked for signs of theft, unsafe living conditions and animal neglect, and they found plenty.
By the afternoon, crews removed more than 18,000 pounds of debris from near a line of railroad tracks, nine neglected dogs were seized and three illegal dumpsites were cleaned, Tampa police officer Greg Hattle said. One man was arrested on burglary charges during the event, which was dubbed Operation Summer Heat.
'We had a good turnout, and we really made a very large dent in things,' Hattle said.
The sweep's boundaries reached from Florida Avenue east to 22nd Street and Bougainvillea Avenue south to Busch Boulevard. Working in pairs, Hillsborough Animal Services workers were accompanied by police.
TECO searched meter boxes on 40 properties to see whether they'd been rigged to steal electricity and found six homes where people reconnected service that had been disconnected.
The sweeps were started several years ago by the city and county agencies, and they invited utility providers to join them, TECO spokesman Rick Morera said. Utility workers by law may enter private property to inspect equipment, and they often catch a glimpse of illicit activities.
'We've had a great relationship with law enforcement since they started these initiatives,' Morera said. 'It's a win-win situation for everyone, and it's a victory for the community because we're making it safe for our customers and our workers.'
The safety concerns include loose and dangerous dogs.
(I beg your pardon. My dog was outside one day and a TECO guy who had no reason to enter my yard snapped an umbrella or some such device at my dog. I've watched the TECO guys read my meter for years; they do it from the corner standing in front of the house next door. Repeat: there is NO reason to enter my yard. The dog was lying in the shade by the fence and the TECO guy incited him. It's on film) Nice looking young guy, too. Nazis come in all flavors. Anyway, this is all covered under spying. There are programs tracking your home that guarantee that TECO and Verizon AND the various city utilities know exactly WHEN you are home and how much of their 'product' you are using. As well, I habitually BLOCK my cell phone # because I (unlike those with low self-esteem) guard my privacy and that of my family. BUT, when I called TECO the other day to report an emergency they returned my call to a BLOCKED # .. hmmmmm what's THAT about? How can they see through my block ??? How's that work?? hmmmmmmmmmmmm) I threatened to call and report the guy but never did because I'm just not a bitch but considering becoming one.

'People don't realize half of what we do,' Animal Services Investigator Ken Vetzel said after packing two flea-covered dogs into cages in a white carrier van. (oh yeah, ken WE DO WE REALIZE !!!)
He stopped several times Wednesday morning to speak to animal owners after spotting loose or neglected dogs. Twenty-seven owners received citations.
'It's a good thing,' resident Teresa Williams said. 'They're waking up the neighborhood. I've seen children chased by dogs. I feel if people are not going to take care of their animals, then they should not have them.'
Her neighbor, Elaine Brown, agreed, recalling a time when a vicious dog terrorized her own family.
'I wish they'd done this kind of thing years ago,' Brown said. 'My son was attacked by a pit bull. He was 3 years old at the time and was sitting in a pickup. The dog snatched him out and the doctor said that if he'd been cut an eighth of an inch deeper, he'd have bled to death.'
