Progressive Patriots

These are the folks to keep an eye on. Hand-picked by whom we hope are the most progressive among us.

If they stray even for a moment and don't get rid of the Patriot Act and BAIL OUT THE FREE PRESS, then we've elected them for nothing.


Many of you wrote to ask us how our Progressive Patriots candidates did. We still have a few races that have not been called, but as of right now I'm pleased to report that 68 of our candidates won.
Our candidates participating in the '2008 Patriot Corps' won at least 14 of their races, with some still to close too call. Thanks to the efforts of our organizers I'll be working alongside Jeff Merkley, Jeanne Shaheen, and Tom Udall in the Senate next year. In the House they'll be joined by Betsy Markey, Tom Perriello, Martin Heinrich, John Boccieri, Ann Kirkpatrick, Eric Massa, and Larry Kissell. And progressive incumbents Tim Walz, Carol Shea-Porter, John Hall, Chris Murphy, and Steve Kagen each won reelection.
'Expand the Map' candidate Walt Minnick won and will become the first Democrat to serve Idaho in Congress since 1994. And 'Pick a Progressive Patriot' candidate Kay Hagan defeated Elizabeth Dole to become North Carolina's next Senator.
A few of our races are still to close to call, including Al Franken in Minnesota, and Mark Begich in Alaska. We hope that both of these very close races will become victories.
Everyone here at the Progressive Patriots Fund is proud of our 2008 candidates, and what they accomplished in this extraordinary election year.

Tickets for original 'Body Worlds' exhibit on sale today
TAMPA -- Bare bones and plasticized muscles. Unmoving eyes and propped-up poses. Some call it educational, others cry creepy. But it’s all on display at the Museum of Science and Industry in a new exhibit. Sound familiar?
Body Worlds, the original anatomical exhibition featuring human cadavers, is coming to town in January. It's along the lines of a display formerly featured there, Bodies, The Exhibition. But this time, the bodies were willfully donated, said MOSI spokeswoman Shani Jefferson.
Tickets are on sale today.
"It's a lot different," Jefferson said of Body Worlds, compared to Bodies, The Exhibition. “This is a real treat for Tampa Bay residents.”
The original exhibit was created by Dr. Gunther von Hagens, a German doctor who developed the method of preserving body parts by embedding them in plastic. His Institute for Plastination has more than 8,900 registered donors in its database, Jefferson said.
