Marghi Dutton is 90 and losing her eyesight, but nothing was going to stop her from trekking to midspan of the Golden Gate Bridge on Sunday with the anti-war group Code Pink: Women for Peace.

She joined a crowd of about 100 demonstrators dressed in hot pink hats, shirts and scarves and fought the wind to raise her sign: "Impeach Bush and Cheney!"

"My arms are aching, but I'm getting energy from the drivers - so many are honking in support," she said.

New York will miss it's famous belle of the ball whose generosity supported so many worthy

artistic endeavors. The link is from Wikipedia, updated almost immediately.

I thought it was interesting with the array of career choices open to them that the children of the family opted for careers in the CIA, Department of State and other similar tracks.

Her only son is the same age as my Grandmother would be if she were still alive.

As Brooke Astor's friend, the novelist Louis Auchincloss said, “Of course she married Vincent for the money,” adding, “I wouldn’t respect her if she hadn’t. ...

She lived her life well: It was inquired whether she was afraid while walking alone and she replied, "I'm not." PBS has some wonderful highlights of her well-lived life and an interview.

In the last several years there have been indications of some family strife which can be read about here. So Ms. Brooke was not perfect and not a perfect parent, but she was a good-hearted philanthropist who lived her life her way. Indelibly human like the rest of the population. I visited the article to acquire the picture below of Ms. Astor at age 100:

Hello,

I'm slated to be one of the new voices at Vox, the back door.

I'm really new in Tampa but over the years have learned a lot of the history of the city through frequent visits and the family establishment we have developed here.

I feel very fortunate to have been born in this time. There is a reason we are all here in the contentious times that we are facing. In a way, it's a great compliment.

I'm not sure how much I will contribute but my intentions are good.

I do have a blog which I may eventually link to but it DOES fall into the viral category; perhaps you would prefer to be x-challenged.
