Lucio and Cheney tied into GEO prison company

WILLACY COUNTY - Vice President Dick Cheney and Senator Eddie Lucio, Jr. are tied to the GEO prison company because they both made money off the GEO group.

The indictment says that the Vice President has $85 million invested in a company called the Vanguard Group. The Vanguard Group has investments in prison companies such as the GEO group. The indictments states that the Vice President has a say in how much money the federal government pays those prison companies to house inmates. According to the indictment, it's a conflict of interest because the more money prison companies make, the more money that goes back to the investors such as Cheney.

As for Senator Eddie Lucio, Jr. the accusation against him is that he was paid to be a consultant for the prison companies and that he made a profit as a result of his senate office.

Young Mr. Kowiak's death:

"At this point, we're just treating it as an accidental death off-campus." (so says the Hickory NC police detective, Huffman)

Witness statements were somewhat contradictory on how Kowiak was hurt, Huffman said. Investigators were told Kowiak was playing flag football, tackle football or basketball.

David Gardner Tweed, the Kowiaks' family pastor, said he was told Kowiak was tossing a ball with friends when "apparently he landed wrong and hit his head on the concrete."

Kowiak was taken to a hospital in Charlotte, N.C. on Monday, Huffman said. The sheriff's office was informed of the student's death Tuesday. Huffman said detectives are expecting medical information from the hospital this week.

"Hopefully we can get some good, concise information," he said. "It would surprise me if it was anything but an accident."

Kowiak is a graduate of Wharton High School in New Tampa. He was a scholarship player on Lenoir-Rhyne's golf team.

You should tell them what you think. Law enforcement always has the same litany. They want to go home and see their wives and children. So do all of us.

I have no objection to being forced to take a life. I just don't think that the ones I read qualify and that's that. Call it what you will. IF some guy was running at me with a knife my first thougt would NOT be to shoot him. Sounds jacked up.
