TAMPA — You won't find many taxicabs or Humvees at MacDill Air Force Base on Friday when Gen. David Petraeus takes the helm of U.S. Central Command.

As Americans cope with the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, CentCom is renting 40 luxury sedans and 40 high-end sport utility vehicles to ferry generals and VIPs, purchase documents show.

And they don't come cheaply.

While documents show CentCom estimated the vehicle cost at $56,000, a CentCom spokesman said the figure was closer to $40,000 and included rentals for additional buses and vans.

"They can't take cabs? What's wrong with Humvees?" asked military analyst Winslow Wheeler. "This is extremely offensive, and this should provide an example for Sens. McCain and Obama about the excesses of defense spending."

CentCom officials, however, said on Monday that Pentagon rules spell out exactly what types of vehicles are used to drive generals three-star or above and other VIPs for official ceremonies.

CentCom has little discretion, the spokesman said. Pentagon officials could not be reached to comment late Monday.

"Every effort is made to do this as frugally as possible while fulfilling Department of Defense protocol and force-protection requirements," said Maj. Joe Kloppel, a CentCom spokesman.

WHen I tell you that they stalk us in order to threaten us from our home because they own ALMOST ALL of the homes in this neighborhood now (save that of the biker friend of Marion Lambert building the republican/biker/confederate compound just along the other blocks) I haven't been kiddin. BUT, then they think that their big moments are pinning fucking badges on each other. Sure and I could get my friends together or should I say my criminal counterparts in their cases and we oculd award each other all kindsa claptrap.

Greenspan: A minority Report

Before I caught on to the greasy way that many Republicans do things I liked Alan Greenspan. Mainly because what he said was normally true. Well, duh. This is going back some years.
I'd kinda like to spit in his direction now for attempting to deflect the animosity from bush while the media blames this state of affairs on 'both sides of the aisle'.

But, in some ways that is true. I see Democrats giving money to BANKS AND CITIES to build up the stock of affordable housing FOR A CITY not so that folks can keep their homes. Most of my friends were they to have a catastrophic incident and have an impatient employer they'd be so close to homeless so quick it's not funny. There's still NO HELP for them. BUT, the city of tampa and it's blok kaptain cdc s could swoop in and grab that property.

I should know. It wouldn't have mattered where I was at or what I had stored when my family member was murdered I came close to losing everything. I simply didn't care. The money was not really the problem ... finally I went and did something about it because I realized that my home was the last place I knew my family member in and so fuck you then you murdered him for NOTHING. NOTHING. ANd, yes, earned never given.
