Impeachment clearly is warranted, both for Cheney and for Drunky McStagger, the nominal leader, himself. It's one thing to oppose impeachment, but for a Democratic leader to refuse even to countenance the idea of impeachment and allow it a full and fair opportunity to be debated is malfeasance of the highest order. It's unconscionable and astonishing, and it demands a response.

The incomparable Tas (of Sugar Land is Dreaming and Pushing Rope) compares the ideologies of Bush to that nut in Pakistan. (my words calling a spade a spade) Sometimes you feel like a nut.

Why Schumer and Feinstein Rolled Over

Oh, and Belgium finally does what seemingly NO OTHER COUNTRY or CLEARWATER has the balls to do and pursues criminal charges against Scientology. Well, DUH.

Scientology's response? The usual. Buy real-estate with all that hush money and take over Belgium's prime parts.

BRUSSELS - It all began with a woman who wanted her money back.

In 1997 a former member of the Church of Scientology, unhappy with courses she had taken, tried to get a refund of 700,000 Belgian francs - about $17,000. Authorities began looking into the church's finances and interviewing people.

Now, 10 years and 76 cartons of documents later, prosecutors say the evidence points to one conclusion: The Church of Scientology in Belgium is a "criminal organization" that has used fraud and extortion to separate members from their money.

I always say that you are innocent until proven guilty, but we really have enough elements and statements that we can prosecute them for a number of crimes and misdemeanors," says Lieve Pellens, a spokesperson for Belgium's Office of the Federal Prosecutor.

Critics cite pressure to pay - and to stay

On a street near the Grand Place, Brussels' touristy medieval square, sits the Dianetics and Scientology Life Improvement Center. It has books by L. Ron Hubbard, the science fiction writer who founded Scientology in 1954, and offers "gratis stress tests."

It is these free tests - with questions like "Do you find it easy to relax?" - that Belgian critics say are used to lure people into counseling and courses that can cost tens of thousands of dollars.

"It's hard-sell marketing," said Henri de Cordes, president of Belgium's Information and Advice Center on Harmful Sectarian Organizations. "When they grab someone, they don't release him or her very easily."

One woman, now in her 80s, joined Scientology decades ago and "hasn't anything left of what she inherited from her parents," de Cordes said. "She has reached the point of no return."

During the parliamentary inquiry, current and former Scientologists testified that their first contact with the church was through the questionnaires, although Scientologists initially were "never open about the real goal of what they were doing," said Willems, then a House member.

With the results invariably showing the respondents needed help, they were encouraged to take courses and "auditing" - one-on-one sessions with a Scientology counselor using an "e-meter," a device similar to a lie detector. The process is intended to help members reach a "clear" state, free of problems.

As training and auditing costs soared, members were pressured to borrow from family or take out loans, Willems said. When their finances were depleted, they could get the services free by working for the church, although they had to pay back the money if they left Scientology.

Another way the church kept a grip on its members, Willems said, was by collecting potentially embarrassing personal information during the auditing process.

"They ask if you have sex with animals, if you're homosexual, so they make a dossier," he said. "They blackmail people. To get out of Scientology is very difficult."

Willems said he has a "normal life, no secrets." During the inquiry, however, Scientology tried to intimidate him and others it considered "enemies," he said. One lobbyist for the church warned Willems that if he continued his criticism, "it will go very wrong for you." (The church denies intimidation, and nothing happened.)

In 1997, Parliament published a list of the 189 religious groups it had studied, including Scientology, and created the center on harmful organizations to give advice and information to the public. Its library contains several of Hubbard's books, including the landmark Dianetics.

It also has such titles as Scientology: An Extremist Religion.

Full disclosure: In Tampa back in the late 80's my employer carried the Church of Scientology account. Because of my position it was incumbent upon me to be involved in large cash transactions. When the victims of Scientology came to get their money back they were accompanied by SEVERAL OR MORE members of the church. Realize this didn't happen very often. NO refunds. And, I'm sure it's just gotten worse. These people looked beaten. Sad and desperate. The church members filled the entire back of the check with a typed, extremely restrictive endorsement. It was questionable whether we should even perform the transactions. We didn't really want the account. Scientology is a TOOL.

President George Bush plans to attack Iran. From coast to coast, the people of this country are demanding impeachment, which may be the only way to stop him. We are acting now because a failure to impeach Bush with Vice President Cheney and other civil officers for crimes against peace, war crimes and crimes against humanity may condemn the world to war without end. Has he not made it clear that he intends to attack Iran?

Again and again he has threatened Iran with attack if it does not abandon its nuclear program and act to please him. The threat, like the use of force against a nation, is a violation of Article 2.4 of the Charter of the United Nations just as the threat of assault, like assault itself, is a crime in all legal systems. President Bush has unilaterally imposed the most comprehensive economic sanctions within his power against Iran, excepting of course the purchase of Iranian oil. Sanctions are crueler than the colonial whipping post because they harm infants, children, the elderly and the infirm.

When President Bush decides to launch missiles at Iran, he will proclaim the necessity for his action to prevent nuclear terrorism, and save freedom and democracy. "This government does not torture people," President Bush assures us despite Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo, rendition, the staunch defense of torture by his legal advisers throughout his Presidency and what We the People know, as he knows we know. We are being told that truth is what the Decider says it is. As with Iraq before, he now says Iran is a nuclear threat to the U.S. and brooks no dispute of his decision. ...

Failure to act will place the United States and much of the rest of the world in great danger of spreading war and violence resulting from a direct attack ordered by President Bush against Iran, retaliation by Iran and the fueling of existing tensions and conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and other countries in the region. Given President Bush’s record, who will doubt the high risk that he will carry out his threats and seek the illusions of his advisers? Who can justify giving him the opportunity to wage another war of aggression?

The Congress will not act to impeach and try President Bush and the principal officers of the United States, despite its Constitutional duty, unless We, the People, demand it. It has failed utterly to resist the continuing war against Iraq or respond to President Bush’s threats against Iran, Cuba and other nations.

We dare not fail. We must demand Impeachment now, trials and removals from office and firm control of the war powers placed in the Congress by the Constitution, Article I, sec. 8 until President Bush, Vice President Cheney and the other principal civil officers of the United States are removed from office.

We can form Impeachment committees in every Congressional District, focusing first on the Judiciary Committee members in the House of Representatives.

Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, 2 p.m. Kucinich has introduced H Res 333 as a privileged resolution.

Rep. Jose Serrano chaired the session. Congressman Kucinich introduced H Res 333 and read the three charges against Cheney contained therein. Serrano said that a time would be designated within the next two days for the bill to be considered. At that time, anything could happen, including a vote on the resolution, a vote on tabling the resolution, or sending the resolution to committee (potentially with a time limit for a response). Rep. Steny Hoyer has reportedly said he will move to table the resolution. We have somewhere between 10 mins and 48 hours to let our Congress Members know to vote No on tabling, Yes on impeachment.

Congressman Dennis Kucinich, whose bill to impeach Cheney has 22 sponsors, introduced his resolution as planned on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives on November 6. Another congress member will probably move to table (kill) the resolution. The vote will come on the 6th, 7th, or 8th. We need you to ask your representative to vote No on tabling, Yes on giving impeachment a chance. Those who vote Yes to table cannot use the excuse that "We don't have the votes," since others will at that same instant with exactly the same exertion be voting No. Please scroll down to contact Congress and the media right away! First We Have To Stop Mukasey Despite the fact that Mukasey still will not rule out torture as official U.S. policy, and refuses to even admit that waterboarding (a torture technique from the Spanish inquisition) IS torture, Diane Feinstein (CA) says she is "planning" to vote for him. Despite the fact that Mukasey refuses to concede that the president must obey the laws of the land and not act as a law unto himself, Chuck Schumer (NY) is "planning" on voting for him. Well, here's what we're planning on doing. We're planning flooding their phone lines on Monday. We are planning on telling them that this is absolutely the last straw, and unless Democrats like them find a spine and start fighting on principle they can forget about any more campaign contributions. Without the votes of these two Democratic senators Mukasey is finished. What baseball team ever looked at the scoreboard in the 7th inning and gave up because they were two runs behind? What kind of crazy loser insanity would that be? And yet we heard a CNN fluff head gloating on the TV about how the White House bullies win again. Well we still have our power hitters coming up and those power hitters are you. Now, Feinstein in particular, and many of the other senators, have this cute little game they play where they let their answering machines fill up, to try to discourage people from even bothering to call. This means even those of you who do not have Democratic senators have a right to have an impact on this. And remember, the more pressure we put on all the other senators, the more the waywards on the Judiciary Committee will feel it, including others lurking around who have not disclosed their vote plans. The next thing they tell us is that the Iron Maiden is like acupuncture and the Rack is good for height enhancement. Are you outraged yet? Second, We Must Support H.Res. 333 To Impeach Cheney Dennis Kucinich has stepped forward to bring the resolution to impeach Cheney as a privileged resolution. This means that the House is forced to consider it. So what are the so-called leaders of the House planning on doing? They are "planning" on trying to quash debate with an obscure parliamentary trick called a "motion to table". So what are we planning on doing? We're planning on calling each and every member of the House of Representatives and demand that they actually represent us. We're planning on demanding that they support H.Res. 333 and give it a full and free debate and hearing, and to reject the motion to table. We're planning on telling them that unless they stand up for the people now, we will find new and different candidates for their seats, through primary challenges if necessary in the very next election. Congressman Dennis Kucinich said on a conference call Monday evening that after moving to impeach Vice President Cheney on Tuesday he will also introduce, at a future date, a resolution to impeach President Bush.

Or rather, he would have said that on the conference call if not for several technical SNAFUs.The call was advertised as a one-way call on which only Kucinich could speak, but Kucinich was unable to get through because of the incredible number of people on the call (I have no count yet, but the dings of the new people coming on were a steady stream of noise for half an hour).So Kucinich phoned me, and I held one of my phones up to another so that everyone on the call could hear him. That was working fine for about 20 seconds, until the geniuses running the call chose that moment to mute everyone except Dennis (without stopping to realize that by muting me they were muting Dennis). So, Kucinich gave a nice speech through my phones, but I was the only one listening.Here's what he said:He is going to introduce a privileged resolution on the floor of the U.S. House Tuesday morning to force a vote on his resolution to impeach Cheney (H Res 333). While that bill includes offenses related to Iraq and Iran, Kucinich plans to focus his remarks on Iran and the fact that the current Pentagon bill includes funding to retrofit bombers to carry 15-ton bombs.

Kucinich said he would hold a press conference at 3 p.m. in 2456 Rayburn House Office Building, Washington, D.C., and would post on his House website and at http://impeachcheney.org/ an account of what transpired on the floor.He said that there might be an actual debate on the substance of the charges, for which he said he was prepared, or there might be a motion to table the matter (effectively killing it if successful), or it might be referred to a committee. If it is sent to committee, Kucinich said, it will be the House Judiciary Committee. I asked whether (as has been done with impeachment resolutions in the past) he would be able to insist on a time limit for the committee to report back. Kucinich seemed unsure whether that could be done, but proposed that whether or not the matter is sent to committee he might start a discharge petition as another tool for forcing real action on the floor of the House.Currently H Res 333 sits in the Constitution Subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee, where Chairman Jerrold Nadler has done nothing with it for months.

Kucinich expressed great appreciation for what all the activist groups and individuals on the call are doing to help promote impeachment. He also wanted to let everyone know that he will not only continue pushing for the impeachment of Cheney but will also take up the impeachment of Bush with a new resolution.This was terrific to hear. I wish I had not been the only one to hear it.
