Nancy Bostock tries for an Intelligent Design

Laugh or cry? Where the HELL do they get these people??

This is the same lady (Nancy Bostock, Pinellas County School Board Marm)who wanted to dump her adopted kid back off ... and/OR have the state pay for his care in a group home while she visited on Sunday and patted herself on the back for being a great adoptive parent.

O'Shea worries that children who are taught creationism at home might be confused by evolution. And Bostock wonders if creationism could be taught without saying it's science.

Wayne Garcia had a GREAT piece on this subject in CL.

I did kindly suggest that she go and resign the school board and stay home and teach her adoptive child Intelligent Design .... OH OOPS, can't DO that.
Ya dropped him off in a group home and asked US to PAY FOR IT.

Apparently the kid had reason for trying to kill her. She was pushing her fundy Christian views on him and he couldn't take it anymore.

I don't believe he tried to kill her I'm just being myself.

Evolution is a theory accepted by many and ID is a theory accepted by many. No one is talking about teaching the Bible. So all you Bible-phobes need to step out of your boxes and calm down. Are you afraid of a little balance in the debate?

There are about 10,000 distinct religions in the world. So if "fairness" (from the neo-con perspective) were important, teaching creationism (regardless of what you call it) as an alternative to reality (oops, science)would take all available time.

I recommend that anyone who wishes to learn more about the ID/evolution debate, please watch the PBS/NOVA special on the subject. After watching, any board member still supporting ID DESERVES to be the laughing stock of the nation.

Please don't stop with just teaching ID. Lets teach alchemy with chemistry, astrology with astronomy, and witchcraft with physics. Ya, we need a well balanced curriculum so all kids can make up their own minds. We know more than any scientist!

Evolution is a scientiic theory. ID is a religious belief. Teach science in science class. Teach religion somewhere that does not have legally required attendance and is not funded by my tax dollars.

There is much confusion regarding the nature of "fact" vs "theory" Evolution is a theory that is based on (supported by) facts. Intelligent Design is a faith-based theory that has no verifiable, measurable, supporting evidence that can be tested.

First, science class is for science, not religious beliefs. Also, whose belief's would you teach? Earth created by Sun God, Xenu Alian, Zeus... Pick your religion and go to their church. School is for theories based on evidence.

I hope those against ID realize that there is scientific proof for it. In fact there are many more examples to prove ID (scientifically) than evolution. I wonder why this is never mentioned? I suppose it's much easier to just call us Jesus Freaks.

FCC votes to screw us OVER

This is actually a pretty good AP article so I'll let you read it instead of my rantishness. I just wanted to mention that here in Pampa FL we have Tampa Tribune exec Janet Weaver recently married to Rusty Coates, WFLA, television exec. I'm sure there will be no collusion there. We have Bill Sharp buying up all the local small papers and we've already seen evidence of what he finds acceptable news and writing .... (never mind the links .. we ALL KNOW) and over at Creative Loafing there seem to be many familial connections. While it's POSSIBLE that there is no collusion or 'news-softening' with these familial relationships there, it's KINDA REALLY DOUBTFUL.

So, even our 'alternative' news is screwed. Which more or less explains why all these progressive folks can't seem to get the word IMPEACHMENT past their word processors. Even though it's not only historic it's ESSENTIAL to impeach first this thieving VP and then his Boss, Dick. I mean, george.

Let's hope Congress pushes this vote back down. If I was happy to be leaving Pampa BEFORE there is NO COMPARISON to how happy I am to leave it NOW. WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Federal Communications Commission voted on Tuesday to loosen media ownership restrictions in the 20 biggest U.S. cities, despite objections from consumer groups and a threat by some U.S. senators to revoke the action.
The FCC voted 3-2, along party lines, to ease the 32-year-old ban on ownership of a newspaper and broadcast outlet in a single market.
In addition, the FCC action exempted 36 newspaper-broadcast ownership combinations that had been grandfathered under the previous rule. It also exempted six ownership applications that were pending before the agency.
The FCC's Republican chairman, Kevin Martin, called the move a "relatively minimal loosening of the ban" and said it "may help to forestall the erosion in local news coverage."
The vote came over the objections of the FCC's two Democratic commissioners and in the face of opposition from lawmakers in Congress.
"The FCC has never attempted such a brazen act of defiance against Congress," said Democratic Commissioner Jonathan Adelstein. "The law does not say we are to serve those who seek to profit by using the public airwaves.
"The law says we are to serve the public interest," Adelstein continued. "And the public has repeatedly told us they are not interested in further media consolidation."
Existing FCC rules ban ownership of a newspaper, and a television or radio station in the same market, unless the FCC grants a waiver.
Critics of easing the ownership rule say it will lead to more consolidation in the industry, eliminate independent voices and degrade local news coverage.
They also argue it will unleash a wave of mergers going beyond the top 20 markets.
The vote came a day after a group of 25 senators sent a letter to Martin warning they would "move legislation to revoke the rule and nullify the vote" if the FCC went ahead with the ownership rule changes.
The group, including Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Daniel Inouye, a Democrat from Hawaii, and the panel's top Republican, Ted Stevens of Alaska, said the FCC had not spent enough time studying the issue and seeking public input.
On November 30, the three Republican commissioners approved an order temporarily waiving the ownership restrictions for media group Tribune Co, allowing the company to proceed with its planned leveraged buy-out.
Tribune shares were up 3.2 percent to $33.32 in afternoon trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
