On the verge of his most successful political bid in seven runs at public office, Joe Redner had no plans for a traditional election celebration. (Thank God)

Redner appeared bound for a run off with Tampa City Council member Gwen Miller in the city wide race for District 1 that was jammed with six candidates.

After finishing his public access local television show, Redner said he would probably head for the Mons Venus, the strip club for which he is best known, rather than attend the usual campaign party.

“No pomp and circumstance,” Redner said.

The gathering at what Tampa City Council member Gwen Miller confidently called her “victory party” at The Italian Club was a lot like the Ybor City sidewalks outside: quiet for now.

With a large number of precincts not counted, Miller was quietly sure that she would maintain her lead through the citywide District 1 race. But with five opponents splitting the vote, she also said she would not be surprised if she wound up in a run-off.

Though the gathering of family and supporters was relatively quiet with adults glued to a laptop computer showing the latest results and children scampering around the tables and chairs, Miller predicted things would grow livlier later in the evening.


Johnson jabs Redner in every line in his 'coverage'. (and I like his spelling in Gwen's coverage hehe .... okay, I know it was a typo, I'm just miffed at his crap about redner)

For the record, I know Joe Redner from MANY places and I've never been to one of his clubs, though I am perfectly aware that he owns them. I also know him from being arrested for protesting BUSH, from loudly raising his voice in opposition to religious zealot Bill what's his name from late night call-in miracle worker. I know Joe from he and I having the same destination many times. Didn't see Gwen there !! What the hell are the other city council members doing?? Joe is OUT THERE, like me,and like you --- trying to make things better and trying to be a good American. While his sometimes nemesis is in Tallahassee trying to get young girls reported to the police for becoming pregnant.

I know Joe from Greg Palast's appearance at Tampa U. I know Joe from City Council and County Commission meetings. Making the most of the three BULLSHIT minutes given a citizen to make their voices heard. I know Joe from the same places I know Nadine Smith.

With Joe on City Council I'd have less City Council envy.

He could buy a higher office than City Council if he wanted to. I just don't think he has some scurvy agenda for us. Come ON, Tampa is already the NUDE capital of the world -- is there some other title we are afraid Joe will bring?

Is it more embarrassing to some to have HIM on City Council than it would be to have the usual crooks and liars?

More embarrassing than a bunch of dead wood?

At least Joe would SPEAK UP about what MATTERS.

If left up to the Tampa City Council and the Tampa Tribune you'd never even know what's going on anywhere else in the world. While other cities are passing legislation to impeach and setting nuke-free zones and discussing ways to take care of the homeless --- Tampa's City Council is okay'ing cranes, giving away the farm, raising parking fees (oh right, that's the incumbent mayor) --- in general, they are doing JACK.

Let Joe WAKE THEM UP !!!
