Council for a Livable World
Council for a Livable World, a progressive organization working on foreign policy issues, has been one of my strongest advocates. The Council has consistently supported me and worked with me for sensible national security policies. (this is Russ Feingold speaking)The Council has a Blog (haven't checked it out but here ya go)
The Council has been working hard in Washington, D.C. with Senate leaders to bring an end to the tragic and misguided war in Iraq. When the Senate voted last month to set a deadline for withdrawal of American military forces from Iraq, an important step in bringing pressure to end the war, Council for a Livable World was a critical ally in that fight.
Please consider signing this Council petition urging the President to agree to a timeline for withdrawal of American combat forces from Iraq.
Council for a Livable World helps elect candidates who endorse expanded nuclear non-proliferation programs and oppose the Bush Administration's misguided national security policies. In the last election, it raised over $1.5 million and helped elect 17 Senators and 25 Representatives.
The Council joined the Progressive Patriots Fund in backing such important newcomers as John Tester of Montana, Sherrod Brown of Ohio, Bernie Sanders of Vermont, and Ben Cardin of Maryland. By helping elect these Senators, the Council played an important role in helping progressives regain majority control of the United States Congress.
Please consider signing this petition urging the President to agree to a timeline for withdrawal of American combat forces from Iraq.
This year, Council for a Livable World and their supporters are helping to build pressure to support a timetable for a phased redeployment from Iraq. A majority of the Senate has already voted in favor of this position.
Majority Leader Harry Reid's office recently thanked the Council for its effective advocacy work. Iowa freshman Representative Bruce Braley, who was elected with the Council's support, said in an interview that the Council's legislative work was of the utmost importance. Oregon Representative Peter DeFazio quoted a letter from Council for a Livable World in a recently published Op-Ed discussing how Congress can end the war in Iraq.
There's not much time left. A bill could go to the President's desk in the next two weeks. Please make your voice heard by supporting this important step in ending the war in Iraq.
With high hopes,
Russ Feingold
United States Senator
