I know and you know that there are close to thirty people (and more I think) committed to a hunger strike until Conyers begins Impeachment hearings. I'm giving some thought to joining them for a few days, at least. Fasting is actually very good for you, anyway. To a point.

I have to stay sharp because oh MY GOD the usual stuff is happening. Honestly I can handle most of it in my sleep but considering they believe EVERYONE to be fair game, even children, I stay alert as possible while avoiding the state of paranoia they'd LOVE to keep folks in.
Today I did some interesting things and took care of some business and foremost on that list was calling Conyers' office and emailing him to be sure he gets an idea of how many of us support getting the CABAL out of the White House.
I called twice.
The first time I called I was not asked for my name but merely told that the aide was not sure when the Congressman would support impeachment but that my thoughts would be made known to Congressman Conyers.
I didn't feel very good about that call so I called again and was told THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for supporting impeachment. I was also asked for my name and phone # which I was happy to give.
It surprised me to be thanked so profusely.
I hope that at least SOME of you picked up the phone and called. It's really quick to do.

As I've blogged in the past, Leslie Angeline's folks were among the ORIGINAL freedom bus riders.
I've wanted to link that up but I've been busy.
Now, I'm not sure if her folks were in the original THIRTEEN or the resultant 450. Either way, in a nation this size being one of either 13 OR 450 is very significant 'balls wise'.
And, while it DOES piss me off to see so many stand by while others suffer I DO know this: Robert Kennedy, who at the time was the Attorney General was successful with petitioning for racial equality with the ICC:

Of course, he's dead now. What strikes me very hard is that some will sit back and point fingers and ask for reparation.
The deal is that many of those who back Obama say it will move black issues forward. Reparation among them.

Frankly, I'm all for reparation.
What I want to see done is THIS: Instead of holding the completely useless government and all white folks up for that bill instead take a long view on how many WHITES are DEAD and how many of us are still working hard for civil rights while people 'of color' fight us and refuse to act out, disobey and DEMAND IMPEACHMENT.
And, while you're at it: Find out EXACTLY WHO is responsible for slavery in this country. Which families. Because MY family did not live in the United States of America while these plantation owners and others were holding slaves.
What I'd like to see instead of the 'apologies' is this: hold THEM responsible. Unless the statute of limitations has expired. Because as far as I know slavery was never made a crime. It was made illegal but past slavers were not held up to criminal charges as they should have been.
You can't exactly put your finger on the damage. I can SEE damage but when people talk about the scars of their grandparents I see that same stuff in my own WHITE family. I guess I'm having a different black/white experience. Yeah, I think it's called THE REAL ONE. Not the lying, fucked up, turn it over one.
BUT, I DO KNOW that at least in Tampa FL many of the slave owners are now dealing meth and otherwise criminally involved with the families of those whom they used to keep as captives.
So, what I propose is to PAY THEM.
Hold the families who HAD SLAVES responsible and leave the rest of us out of it.

NONE of my ancestors had slaves.
LOTS OF THOSE screaming for reparation can't trace back to slavery.
AND, further, if you bring up to many local blacks the sad fact that the liquor and tobacco industries target their billboards to black and historically poor Tampa areas they will shrug and say they don't have 'the black experience' cause they are not FROM AMERICA. Or, funnier yet, they're not FROM AFRICA. (as if all the slaves were from Africa) sorry folks, read your history. THe real shit not the revisionist shit where hitler did not exist and whitey stomped on the black man. See NOT ALL WHITES. And goddamnit I'm fucking sick and tired of not having that recognized. Let those who enriched themselves from slavery make the healing payments.
