CLEARWATER BEACH — Clearwater police are trying to find who is responsible for setting off two homemade acid bombs at two beach restaurants on Monday.
First, a small acid bomb exploded in a garbage can at the entrance to Frenchy's Rockaway Grill, 7 Rockaway St.
A short time later, a similar device exploded underneath the deck of Palm Pavilion Restaurant at 10 Bay Esplanade Ave. Several people were sitting on the deck when the device exploded, Clearwater police said.
No injuries were reported in the incidents, which happened between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. But detectives are concerned because the devices were located in public places, said Clearwater police spokeswoman Beth Watts.
Clearwater police ask anyone with information to call the department's tip line at (727) 562-4422. Or, to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-8477. Tips can also be submitted online at www.crimestoppersofpinellas.org, or by texting TIP144 and a message to 274637.[Last modified: Feb 16, 2010 12:14 PM]

With all the financial trouble the beach restaurants are in due to not only the economy but also the cold weather I certainly hope this does not affect them even more negatively in the way of proceeds.

I consider this to be a terrorist attack. When the suspects are caught they should not be given any preferential treatment. I speculate that the suspects might be teenagers. If they are teenagers, the judge will probably go easy on them, particularly if they are from a wealthy family. Regardless, of who committed the attacks, they should be treated as terrorists.

The Irish Republican Army Tampa likes those explosion thingys and they like stealing restaurants and property. You can find them at the Platt St location. You can find them at the United State's Attorney's Office and you can find them at the IAD Tampa Police (Bautiste) Never heard of anything like this before they slithered to power. It's my opinion and some facts. Why was it deleted?

Shouldn't the suspect(s), if found, be held incommunicado as enemy combatants? I mean, we're in the middle of a "war on terror", right? I sure hope we don't offer them a trial or other benefits that come from the rule of law. Maybe some waterboarding or other "enhanced interrogation techniques" will lead us to their handlers and ultimate motive.

When they find whomever set these bombs off, they need to drop the hammer on them in a big way -- I would be gunning for at least 15 years minimum, with no early release.
This crime is DEFINITELY something you don't want repeated, and the message needs to be loud and clear.
