Nice sowing seeds of hate for the haters MAJOR MEDIA OUTLETS> The last one that I noticed was the death of ms. moody who proclaimed that her mother left NY to take the train to florida so she wouldn't have 'no yankee baby'.

TAMPA — Tommy Stephens likes to think the wild roosters he feeds every afternoon are direct descendants of the ones whose cock-a-doodle-doos woke the bricklayers that built Ybor City in the 19th century.
For better or worse, roosters are part of Ybor tradition. Tourists photograph them. Gardeners scorn them.
And every November, hundreds of revelers flock to Stephens' back yard for a New Orleans-style funeral in memory of James E. Rooster, who met his demise 11 years ago, in the jaws of a neighborhood dog.
Buried in work, Stephens broke tradition this year and called the funeral off.
But Thursday night, after a trapper appeared in his yard, Stephens, 64, started planning a different kind of rooster gathering — a protest.

This Ybor City cock tale begins in 1987, when Stephens moved into the neighborhood and learned that his yard was already home to some wild chickens and roosters.
"Being a country boy," he said, "I just went and bought me some corn, and started feeding them."
Stephens, one of the founders of both Guavaween and the Historic Ybor Neighborhood Civic Association, became known for his wild parties.
So when his beloved rooster died, a festive funeral only seemed appropriate.
The rooster funeral is one of Ybor's most anticipated annual events. Last year's multi-kegger and street parade drew about 600 "mourners" in bright costumes.
Every once in a while, Stephens will get a visit from the city Code Enforcement Department because of the 30-some roosters and chickens that hang around his yard. Nobody has ever tried to take them away.
But this time, someone called a trapper with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the same agency that captures rogue alligators.
Stephens' girlfriend, Pam Vopper, came home to find a man in a khaki jumpsuit. He carried a cage.

Trapper Mike Martinez got the call two weeks ago. He won't say from whom, but someone complained chickens were strutting inside their businesses and scaring off patrons. "I guess some people have a fear of chickens," he said. He drove behind the site, and saw just a hen and some chicks, and decided to let them be.
But Thursday, Martinez returned to find the same hen and her babies dead, with no signs left by a predator.
Foul play? Martinez didn't know. But either way, he didn't want to start seeing roosters slaughtered.
That, he told Vopper, is what brought him to her back yard. He said he was rescuing them.
"Are you b---s----ing me?" Vopper asked. "Is somebody going to eat these chickens?"
Martinez said he planned on taking all the roosters and chickens he captures to rescue centers in Pasco and Polk counties, where they'll be kept within their social groups, tagged, cared for and fed.
Dozens of roosters are spread throughout Ybor, in its trees, behind its trash bins. Martinez will catch them little by little, not to stress them out.
He caught two that night, by hand, and told her he'd return another day, with a net.
Vopper hid Stephens' favorite little hen, Chik-Fil-A.

Stephens missed the whole episode because he was out of town on business. But he has some suspicions about the complainant: "It's probably a Yankee that's never seen a chicken."
Vince Pardo, president of the Ybor City Development Corporation, said the roosters are part of the community and haven't bothered anybody. But Ybor is growing. "Things that have been here, people move in and don't understand that," Pardo said.
Manny Alvarez has lived in Ybor for years, and he's got mixed feelings. The owner of Streetcar Charlie's and the historic Casa Lala property said roosters get into fights, tear up residents' planters and spread fleas.
"I don't mind a few around. It kind of adds to the district," Alvarez said. "We don't need as many as we have."
Pardo is looking into what other cities, like Key West, have done to legalize their famous rooster populations.
And Stephens is calling for all rooster lovers to gather at his house a week from Sunday, with covered dishes and signs that say "Up with chickens. Down with complaining neighbors."
Martinez said he will allow Stephens to choose a few roosters and a hen to keep around.
For the rest, Stephens said, "I just hope I get visitation rights."

Roosters are problem if you are a late sleeper. Trapping thugs, and sending them to the farm and feeding them, the prison farm that is, would be a lot more productive. The thugs are what hurt Ybor business not the chickens. Fix the crime.

Wild chickens are a delight to have around! However, like all wildlife, they sometimes need to have their population controlled. I believe the trapper is approaching this with sound environmental methods, and should be commended for his levity.

You know after much consideration (yeay uh huh) I have realigned my perspective and throw my support behind SOME MORE DIVISION. I mean um heritage. (with that said I realize it really IS heritage for a tiny percentage of those who support it)

I think, in fact, that America and the world over should prepare to defend the Confederate Flag as they do the American one.

I thought of how people have been arrested for burning the American flag and for dragging it around behind their bicycles and threatening to or possibly defacating on it and my response to that was to wave the Constitution around.

Then it came to this whole folderol on the guy Marion Lambert who (happened to) owns the lot they hoisted this ginormous confederate flag above. Funny thing is he must be hunkering down for lawsuits because he's quick transferring his property into other names. Since 1974 no changes, suddenly it enters a trust. DAMN THOSE PUBLIC RECORD DISCLOSURES. Ya'd think a loyal confederate could disappear them with all those shredding trucks around. THEY DID manage to disappear his name somehow but .. helllooooo such a thing as saved to dvd. Anyway, that's interesting. He'll prolly be livin in the compound across the way soon. WELCOME WELCOME. Most ummmm whatever.

Ahh, it begins. This is exactly what they hoped to accomplish ... Read this guy trash everything from Cubans to New Yorkers as he claims ALL of Florida soil for the Confederates or the alleged sons of the alleged confederates.

I don't believe for half of two seconds that this guy in South Tampa raised money for this flag since 2002. Whatever. Somebody who owned some trashy property by side the interstate (probably got a yaller dawg tied to his trailer) cut this guy, Marion Lambert out a slice and away we went.

If I hadn't MET so many people who claim this is heritage not hate ... and out of ALL of them, only one was a reasonable, intelligent, kindly man who actually had his grandpa's picture on his wall .....

Anyway, I was told long ago that they honestly believe they OWN Florida and you and I ?? We're sharecropping their land until they can manage to get us the fuck up off it. That's the truth. Despite the fact that we're not Northern or Cuban.

Anyway, this guy really trashes the cubans in this post and my thinking is maybe he's a cuban guy with a pass trying to start some crap. Though he DOES sound like a real hater and yknow my hope is this: Let the Cuban people be smart enough not to feed into this and create YET ANOTHER 'look this way' effect which is really all these people want.

In the Tampa Trib. one lady commented that she was appalled that the young black woman who objected to this Confederate flag was holding up 'CENTURY OLD' photos of lynchings.

Florida's Flag? Confederate REDUX??

Another of those things that are NOT my imagination because I confirmed it yesterday ....

As recently as five years ago, Florida's not-so-pretty Confederate-leaning flag DID NOT fly over Tampa and Hillsborough County area schools. NOW, it does. Kinda along the same time that the American flag started being MANDATED in every college classroom. Rampant nationalism.

This smacks of STATE-ism, and, I may be coining a new phrase. Worse, it smacks of CLOSET HATRED.

Oddly enough, as much as I have grown to respect most of the members of Florida Progressive Coalition, the fact they used the ugly Florida flag as a symbol nearly caused me to brush them off. I DO NOT LIKE the Florida flag and I think it has a very Confederate-like appearance.

Thought it was just me. Because, as you know while I'm not being nearly murdered, WITH CHILDREN;by friends of Sheriff Gee on the Interstate (as someone else in my family WAS carwrecked and maybe several someones, already) I have friends of every possible stripe. I'm perfectly aware that there are some AWESOME people who truly feel connected by deep prideful history to the Confederate flag and they do not use it as a hate symbol, or because they don't like dark people or for any other putrid reason. They LOVE IT like I love the American flag. I DO NOT love the American flag to exclusion of common sense. I love it because it's beautiful. I'd burn that piece of cloth right in front of Bush if given the chance. No problem. This is America; that's MY RIGHT.

Okay, covered all of that AND pissed Bill Nelson off. Great sentence, eh?

Anyway, I'm VERY TROUBLED by the fact that the Florida flag is hoisted over Tampa's schools, currently and that motivated me to find out why it bothers me.

Because, ABSOLUTELY there are those in Tampa and in Florida and in GA AL TN NC SC etc... who DO use that Confederate flag in a HATE WAR that some of them perpetrate to keep some of us from looking at them too hard. Believing that we GIVE A FUCK what they do provided they're not trying to murder us and our family 22 out of 24 hours of the day. EVERY DAY. Not sure what they do with the other two hours. Presumably have meetings at which they make each other feel taller or ballsier. Something. Because dumping paraplegics, running women and children over with your dumptrucks and breaking the arms of tiny women and yanking other small women around by their hair can't be leaving one feeling very manly OR womanly ....

SO, I did some research in to what smacks of similarity to the Confederate flag and damnnit ONCE AGAIN, it's NOT JUST ME.

Well, apparently: NOTHING. It's just more bullshit to bring the Confederate flag BACK OUT OF THE BASEMENTS AND GARAGES and, by god get it BACK ON THOSE PICKUP TRUCKS. (sorry, I used to have a pickup truck, too and don't pretend you don't know what I mean)

it has been erroneously described since the latter part of the 19th century as a cross, specifically a Saint Andrew's Cross. This folk legend sprang from the memoirs of an aging Confederate officer published in 1893. According to Coski, the Saint Andrew's Cross had no special place in Southern iconography at the time, and if Miles had not been eager to conciliate the Southern Jews his flag would have used the traditional Latin, Saint George's Cross. A colonel named James B. Walton submitted a battle flag design essentially identical to Miles' except with an upright Saint George's cross, but Beauregard chose the diagonal cross design.[16]
Specifically, the St. Andrew's Cross is a white saltire on a blue field, as in the national flag of Scotland. The St. Patrick's Cross, as in the state flag of Alabama, is a red saltire on a white field. The Army of Northern Virginia battle flag has a blue saltire on a red field and is, therefore, neither the St. Andrew's nor the St. Patrick's Cross but a saltire as in the proposed but unadopted Second National flag.
Miles' flag, and all the flag designs up to that point, were rectangular ("oblong") in shape. General Johnston suggested making it square instead. Johnston also specified the various sizes to be used by different types of military units. Beauregard agreed to this and soon prototypes were made by Hetty Cary and her sister and cousin. On November 28, 1861, the Army of Northern Virginia (which was then called the Army of the Potomac) assembled and formally received the first set of new battle flags. Beauregard gave a speech encouraging the soldiers to treat this new flag with honor and that it must never be surrendered. Many soldiers wrote home about the ceremony and the impression the flag had upon them, the "fighting colors" boosting morale after the confusion of the first Battle of Bull Run. From that point on, the battle flag only grew in its identification with the Confederacy and the South in general.[17]
