Code Pink Arrested at GUNPOINT

I might as well take a minute to state: Musharraf QUIT his army .. WHAT possible difference could that make at all in hell? Or HERE? It's absurd to reason that would make any difference AT ALL. Yet they kept writing it and writing it like it made it okay that he deposed Supreme Court judges, arrested Bhutto, murdered opposition and now arrests Americans at gunpoint and deports them. Well, it's HIS country. And he is one of Bush's ALLIES in the fight against tourism. FUCK them ALL.

December 7, 2007

On December 4th, our own Medea Benjamin and Tighe Barry were arrested at gun point in Pakistan during their visit to support pro-democracy activists. Upon leaving a student rally at the Lahore Press Club with a group of journalists, their car was pulled off the road. Armed policemen lept out of cars and off motorcycles and surrounded their car, guns drawn. They forced the driver and journalists out, beat passers-by looking at the scene, hijacked the car with Medea and Tighe inside, and raced recklessly through the crowded streets of Lahore to the police station.

Medea and Tighe were never charged with anything but they were forced to leave the country on the next flight. Their brutal arrest and deportation was just a glimpse at what activists in Pakistan go through as they struggle to bring democracy to their country.

Medea wrote: "In our ten-day visit, we met lawyers who had been brutally beaten and thrown into prisons with rats and murderers. We met judges who had dedicated their lives to the rule of law, only to find themselves unceremoniously thrown off the bench and even physically evicted from their homes. We met students who had been beaten with batons and face expulsion for participating in pro-democracy rallies. We met journalists whose programs had been yanked off the air and tossed from their jobs for criticizing the government. But despite the repression, the lawyers, students and journalists are back out on the streets every day. The Pakistani activists are calling for the release of all political prisoners, no press censorship, and restoration of the independent judges who Musharraf had fired. Our government should freeze its economic assistance to Pakistan until these conditions are met.

I had the best of all worlds. A beloved Grandfather who strove to make up for my Daddy being murdered (uh, no I don't wish the death penalty for his murderers we're ALL DYING ANYWAY) and uncles and other men who taught me things that most women will never know.
Sometimes I wonder if they meant to. I was such a QUIET child, very shy but firm ... in what I would not do. Of course you never knew what I MIGHT DO. Me neither. Sometimes I STILL surprise myself what I'm capable of. Not really. I'm a very firm believe in the skills we are given. Every tool you will ever need on this stage - you enter with. If you ever don't believe me -- just ask for it. Quietly affirm what you need and where you expect to find it in yourself. Surprise yourself.

Anyway -- I was so quiet and everyone had a soft spot for me (lil girl whose daddy was gone before she knew it) never got in the way, always reading. ALWAYS. Sometimes I just learned things by being the audience that everyone had forgotten about. Sometimes I had to BEG. PLEASE TEACH ME HOW TO PUMP GAS. Had to ask strangers. LOL !!!
But I learned how to communicate and love everyone. I didn't have to sign up for hand signals and meth labs to find friends. I didn't sell my own children's SOULS down the river for a false god.

Yes, you did. Stop using people. It has NO effect on me and it's just sad and pathetic.

So, in the spirit of communication (I mean ONE of us has to) YOU can kiss my fine ASS.
