Firstly they elect the council members and mayor who will defend them (or scientology) then they start STRONG-ARMING the citizens.
How do you like it when in every article pertaining to them in the TBO or the St Pete Times that whenever a citizen comments (and NO, it's not always the voxers, we don't read those two papers every day) a fireman pops up with a. we risk our lives for you every day. UH NO YOU DO NOT.
b. hope YOUR house doesn't burn down.
UH IT ALREADY HAS and you've threatened THIS ONE.
Anyway, I like the clearwater firemen.
BUT their association is shaking down Clearwater citizens on behalf of the firemen.
They want two hour lunches. They want nine work days in a month (wow that's like weekends out here in the real world. They work LESS days than YOU are off for the weekend, how you liking that??)
AND, since most of them just attend controlled burns or remodelings by fire and let citizens choke to death while they laugh or drown while they watch... WHY do they deserve GUARANTEED raises for SEVENTEEN YEARS??
There's more.
IT's funny as heck because despite the fact that MANY firemen and cops jump on and comment away and try to spin things ... guess what?
The citizens just sautee' them, anyway.
We're ON to yall.
Next time you choose to stalk someone maybe you'll pick your victims more judiciously.
Oh, that's right you don't have to. You played lil league ball with all the judges and prosecutors.
And, the mayor???
whatever.
here's the comments at the above link. I like what tim said.
Fatted union pigs.

Why haven't Horne, Hibbard and Geer been disciplined , or fired for there wanton disrespect and illegal discipline of firefighters. The facts prove that these individuals should be removed from there positions in the interest of public safety.
by Terry Jun 23, 2008 9:45 AM
Horne and Hibbard have conspired to violate the firefighters repeadedly. And this union busting Geer should have been fired years ago. Voters in Clearwater need to be heard at council meetings and I urge them to do so. All three need to be fired.
by LAB Jun 23, 2008 9:45 AM
If FFs want 2 raises then bargain for them, CWA and PD did. John Lee wants to avoid his job and threaten everyone. All you've got is a bunch of 3 to 5 year old BS on that website. Its not relevant. Grow up and get back to the bargaining table.
by Gilbert Jun 23, 2008 9:45 AM
As a tax payer, citizen, and business owner in the city,I side with the firefighters. This nonsense has been going on too long.Mayor you need to hold our employee,Bill Horne, accountable for all his actions.Just remember, all this happened on your watch.
by Jim Jun 23, 2008 9:45 AM
THe community is tiored of these shakedowns by public safety personnel. Firefighters work nine days per month so they can have second jobs. Change the total firefighting model, 40 hour week, 8 hour days.
by ragoi Jun 23, 2008 9:45 AM
I bet almost all of these anti-City responses were written by on-duty firemen on City computers paid for by taxpayers. Glad I don't live in that cesspool any more.
by Tank Jun 22, 2008 6:47 PM
FDNY retired. Have never heard nor read about such indignant, outrageous and totally incompetency by these three city officials toward the firefighters. This treatment would never by tolerated by taxpayers in Northeast Cities and towns, why is it here
by Holly Jun 22, 2008 8:16 AM
To CFD employees: Thank you. I work in Clearwater and you guys are top notch. The fact you have won all these past arbitrations says it all!
by Stacie Jun 22, 2008 8:16 AM
The City's Mayor,Comission & Mgr.Horne's apparent total disreguard for the Rule of Law & the Courts is startling.Creating an atmospere of fear & having a chilling effect on our firefighters. Our prayers go out to our most precious resource, our Firemen
by fgn Jun 22, 2008 8:16 AM
Hibbards' idea of iron-clad employee decisions is rewriting our contract to suit the cities needs and holding our raises over our heads to make us cave into their demands. Citizens of Clearwater, whatever your opinion may be, tell the city council
by fgn Jun 22, 2008 8:16 AM
re Horne: Our demands? all we want is to be treated like the rest of the employees in the city. Give us what u budgeted for! If our contact was good for the city 4 yrs ago, what has changed? It doesn't have anything to do with the lost grievances?
by David Jun 22, 2008 8:16 AM
The Mayor & Commission's resigned acceptance,to Mr. Horne's illegal & unlawful actions against firefighters, has allowed the current situation to fester! How else could Mr. Horne still be employed after the COURTS have ruled against him repeatedly!!
by Merv Jun 22, 2008 8:15 AM
While the City Manager and Fire Chief continue to misrepresent the Firefighters efforts to recieve fair treament, the EEOC and Arbitrators rule in favor of the firefighters. Are the commissioners going to correct the City Manager and Fire Chief?
by Jon Pearl Jun 22, 2008 8:15 AM
"We just think they seem to frame their issues in a personal way." Mr. Hibbard, your city manager and fire chief are the KINGS of 'personal'. The hiring and retention of these two individuals are enormous blunders that you 'choose' to live with!
by MrJingles Jun 22, 2008 8:15 AM
Mr. Hibbard says "I can't do anything about the past". Seems to me I recall an old saying about learning from past mistakes. It starts from the top Mr. Mayor, put a leash on Mr. Horne, and his sock-puppet "Chief" Geer.
by G Jun 22, 2008 8:15 AM
This is not an attempt to intimidate the city,it is merely meant to be an eye opener for the taxpayers.Millions $$ wasted & laws broken by Horne/Geer without the council/mayor holding them ACCOUNTABLE.
by gary Jun 22, 2008 8:15 AM
if horn was an elected official ,he would be voted out after all the money he;s wasted on legal fees & perks for his head of departments...if the councel dosen;t fire him, then they need to go a.s.a.p.....
by retired and glad of it Jun 22, 2008 8:15 AM
This union had the same problems with their previous contract. Since then the administration in the fire department is completely changed, yet the lack of union leadership has not. Why would you expect things to be different? Think about it.
by Kathy Jun 22, 2008 8:14 AM
Its a shame the mayor and council sit back and allow such disrespect for the law.6 unfair labor practices,5 unjust firings or demotions, sex discrimination, violation of Constitutional rights.100's of thousands of taxpayers dollars wasted!Horne must go
by Steve Jun 22, 2008 8:14 AM
How many citizens, city workers, businesses, organizations, projects, budgets and laws does Bill Horne have to violate before the City Council fires him? He destroys everything he touches. Name one thing he's done right. Just one.... We're waiting...
by Lee Jun 22, 2008 8:14 AM
How idiotic! Reduce cash flow into the city by hurting the tourist industry. I wonder what these hard working individuals think about the malcontent union officials latest scheme to get a new contract.Mr. Horne please do not reward unethical behavior
by jennie Jun 22, 2008 8:14 AM
After spending over a 1/2 million taxpayer dollars to fight issues of fairness and losing to the EEOC and Arbitrators, the City Manager blames the Union for employing boycott tactics that will hurt average citizens. The pot calling the kettle black?
by LAB Jun 22, 2008 8:14 AM
Ten years of war waged against this city by John Lee. Now its "shake down" time for business owners. This is how he improves the relationship?
by Vader Jun 22, 2008 8:14 AM
Frankie, sooner or later your precious city manager will answer to taxpayers of Clearwater for his abuse of power. The time has come to dethrone the tyrant. Citizens Unite, ask why $1.5 million has been wasted by the hilltop six in the last 4 years.
by Doug Jun 22, 2008 8:14 AM
We are hard working people who can choose where to spend our income. I will make sure that I spread the word that Clearwater is not employee friendly. You would think that after several losses the City might listen to the Union and say what can we do
by hank Jun 22, 2008 8:13 AM
this is so clear what horne and his puppet geer are doing here, yet the city counsel and hibbard turn their heads at a huge cost to the city tax payers. this is a total disgrace. horne and geer should have been gone a long time ago.
by Bill Jun 22, 2008 8:13 AM
Ouch!! Mr. Lee and CFD just bit the hand that feeds them. No more sympathy from us citizens as the IAFF and CFD now drag us into the mud. Gee, maybe City officials have handle these negotiations properly all along.
by CC Jun 22, 2008 8:13 AM
Hibbard has no clue. Changing the policies or rules doesn't correct problems. Getting rid of Horne, Geer and the other antagonists is the solution. Keeping them only shows fiscal and managerial irresponsibility. Go to saveclearwaterfire.org and see.
by CC Jun 22, 2008 8:13 AM
Horne and Geers treatment of the fire fighters goes way beyond intimidation to the point of extortion. Either submit to us and take this contract proposal or get nothing at all is no way to treat your employees. Nor is wasting taxpayer dollars.
by CC Jun 22, 2008 8:13 AM
Hibard can make sure the past doesn't surface again by getting rid of Horne, Geer and several others. Why mollycoddle these people when they can't or refuse to learn from the past? Burying your head in the sand like an ostrich doesn't work either.
by Teacher Jun 22, 2008 8:13 AM
Don't they have some fires to put out or something. Oh, I forgot they get 9 % raises every year and complain all the time, while the rest of use get cut back 2 %
by skippy Jun 22, 2008 8:13 AM
The public and the council need to realize that this is not about money or an impasse. They are destroying peoples lives and careers with ruthlessness and the council members are allowing it, possibly even encouraging this conduct! That's really why!
by Reality Jun 22, 2008 8:13 AM
Mr. Lee needs to wake up, who are you hurting by suggesting this boycott? Citizens of Clearwater thats who. His actions speak volumes. Firefighters risk their lives to protect the public. Yet Mr. Lee intends to hurt the citizens of Clearwater.
by tim Jun 22, 2008 8:12 AM
Fatted union pigs shaking down another town. Viva amendment #1.
by Bull Jun 22, 2008 8:12 AM
