HUDSON — A 37-year-old man is accused of trying to kill his girlfriend early Wednesday, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.
Richard A. Boothby Jr. faces a charge of attempted murder after he tried to kill the woman by slamming her head into the ground several times and covering her mouth and nose while pushing his knee into her neck, deputies said.
"You will never see the light of day again," Boothby said to the woman, a report states.
Boothby is a paramedic for Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point, according to the Sheriff's Office.
The woman told authorities survived by pretending she was dead, then running outside the home she shares with Boothby. The incident happened about 2:40 a.m. at 16036 Kemper Drive.
The woman, whose identity was not released, found two people outside who called 911. She was treated for her injuries at the scene, said sheriff's spokesman Doug Tobin.
Deputies reported they pulled over Boothby's vehicle a few minutes later near U.S. 19 and Denton Avenue.
Along with attempted murder, Boothby is charged with false imprisonment and tampering with a witness. He is being held without bail at the Pasco County jail.

I am not sure if attempted murder would stick for trying "to kill her by covering her mouth and nose while pushing his knee into her neck". It's more like aggravated battery. But of course, our sheriff does have to prove he needs the money. LOL (not short for lank o lakes)

Uh, WHAT Harley Dude? Covering both openings that allow air into a person's lungs doesn't constitute attempted murder? Was he just trying to see how long she could hold her breath? Thank God you're not a judge--no one would go to jail. "Well, he did aim the gun at his head and pull the trigger, but seriously your honor, he wasn't trying to KILL him, just scare him"
