EVERYBODY GOES DOWN. Cause all along not only could he not handle his job (such as that unemployed boofus status WAS) he definitely won't make it in prison.

Just north of D.C., in the small suburb of Berwyn Heights, a county SWAT team raided a house last week after a shipping service delivered a large quantity of illegal drugs to the front door.

Good police work in the war on drugs? Probably not. The house is home to Berwyn Heights mayor Cheye Calvo and his wife Trinity Tomsic, and their two black Labs (pictured left). Though the package containing more than 30 lbs. of marijuana was addressed to Tomsic, the couple may have had nothing to do with the drugs.

In recent months there have been incidents in which large quantities of drugs were shipped to homes in the D.C. area, where they were then supposed to be intercepted by drug dealers --- all without the package addressees' knowledge or involvement. Calvo and Tomsic may have been caught up in just such a scheme.

This would make Calvo and Tomsic the unfortunate victims of an understandable error by the police SWAT team, except...The police action was yet another guns-ablazin' , no-knock raid, in which the officers (in what seems like SOP) shot the couple's dogs, even as one of the pups tried to run away. The cops then handcuffed Calvo and his mother-in-law and interrogated them for hours, while the dogs' bodies laid in pools of blood nearby. The cops later found the package of drugs --- unopened, as if it were an unexpected package. No arrests were made."My government blew through my doors and killed my dogs," Calvo told the /Washington Post/. "They thought we were drug dealers, and we were treated as such. I don't think they really ever considered that we weren't."Of course, it may end up that Calvo and his wife are part of a drug distribution ring, and the police have gotten their man. But even if that's true, was a no-knock, shoot-the-dogs raid an appropriate police action for a lousy shipment of pot?And what if the current, emerging picture is correct, and this is yet another botched police raid and cops-gone-wild? /If/ that's the case (and I emphazie the "if"), the Prince George's County SWAT team and its superiors need to be held accountable.Law enforcement officers have a difficult and dangerous job, and I do not make light of that. But their sworn duty is to protect and serve the public, not blast their way into innocent people's houses and shoot their dogs. If they cannot fulfill that duty, then they cannot be law enforcement officers.*UPDATE (8/6):* It turns out that the Prince George's County police who no-knock raided Calvo and Tomsic's home did not have a no-knock warrant. The police did have a standard search warrant (which they apparently failed to show to Calvo, as they are supposed to). If that warrant had been executed properly, it is unlikely that Calvo and Tomsic's dogs would have been killed or their house damaged. Federal Court Rules for Inauguration Day Free Speech Lawsuit After Loss to Protestors, Government Issues Suspect Regulations

In a substantial free speech victory, the Partnership for Civil Justice has succeeded in overturning the National Park Service's repeated self-dealing and gross mismanagement of their permitting system in their effort to stage-manage democracy during the quadrennial Presidential Inaugural parade.

"The January 2005 Inauguration was marred by the exclusion of thousands of people who were denied access because the National Park Service had attempted to turn Pennsylvania Avenue into the private domain of the Bush-Cheney Presidential Inaugural Committee.

As a result of our lawsuit, people may have additional opportunities to access the Inaugural Parade, including those who hold an anti-war view. But this is an unfinished struggle and the litigation is still ongoing," said Mara Verheyden-Hilliard, attorney on the lawsuit and co-founder of the Partnership for Civil Justice.

In response to a Court victory on behalf of the A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition, which has challenged these practices, the NPS has today announced new proposed regulations by which they seek to govern the public's access to the sidewalks along Pennsylvania Avenue, "America's Main Street," during the Inauguration.

The National Park Service and Department of Interior have engaged in repeated illegal and unconstitutional manipulation of the permitting system to deprive access to America's Main Street, restricting access only to the politically approved donors and supporters of the incoming Administration.

"The National Park Service has operated as a political entity and has eagerly violated the Constitution repeatedly in its attempts to limit visible dissent at this historic event that belongs to the public at large, including those who dissent from U.S. war policy," stated Carl Messineo, counsel on the lawsuit and co-founder of the Partnership for Civil Justice."The NPS could not sustain their unconstitutional permitting scheme in the face of a major civil liberties lawsuit.

Their policy and practice was struck down by the federal court on the basis that it was unconstitutional and that they discriminated against those who held an anti-war message at the 2005 Bush Inauguration. We are concerned that the new regulations are an effort by the NPS to create an after-the-fact attempt to get around the Court's Order and once again give preferential treatment to government approved messages," continued Messineo.

These efforts by the government to stifle democracy and dissent at the Inauguration, including the new regulations, are being addressed in the ongoing lawsuit, ANSWER Coalition v Kempthorne in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

They better get that SOB impeached anyway but here's some more ...

In 50 days, congressional oversight may be dead. The Constitution that has served our nation so well since 1789 may be hopelessly and forever diminished. Our federal government and, in turn, our nation may never be the same.
Those are the stakes.
In order for our government to function, we must have checks and balances. In order to prevent a president from assuming king-like powers and to ensure that all presidents are held accountable for their actions, Congress must have effective congressional oversight ability. And, of course, our presidents must respect that power.
George W. Bush does not.
It is time to put an end to this defiling of our Constitution. The U.S. House of Representatives has set September 26 as a target date for adjournment. By that time, Karl Rove, Harriet Miers, and Josh Bolten must comply with the congressional subpoenas they have been issued - and which a federal judge has ordered them to follow.
If they do not, then George W. Bush must be impeached and removed from office.
If he is not removed from office, Congress will have established a standard under which a president may deny Congress's investigative power without penalty. That simply cannot happen.
So today we are launching our "Testify or Impeach" campaign. We are hoping that tens of thousands of Americans will join our call. We will also be asking other organizations to work with us in order to make this campaign as strong as possible.
