I CAN'T be the ONLY ONE who has noticed that EVERY CHURCH in Tampa (save perhaps the hyde park and bayshore ones but they've been supplanted, as well) has changed hands, is facing the wrecking ball, has a casino barking up it's vestry .. etc.....

I don't hope to stop this. I just didn't want it to pass without NOTICE that the fucking FUNDIES are all tied up with gambling and developing and they're wrapping it in HOLY VESTMENTS to get it across.

Besides, I drive by half a dozen a day and one closely related to the NEOCONS FLEEING AMERICA.

Anyway, thanks to cfrost who will probably NEVER see this here and who can outwrite most people without even really seeming to think about it. Effortless brilliance. It's almost as beautiful as David Gee getting his ass kicked to the curb by the inmates. I LOVE IT.

Every last inch of the United States from Anchorage to Miami now looks exactly like every other last dreary inch from Honolulu to Boston. The only difference from one place to the next are the weeds growing in the few remaining empty lots between the strip-malls and trophy homes: dandelions in New York, tarweed in Los Angeles. I can understand that three hundred million Americans who have no sense of history and are too peregrine to have any sense of place have to work and live somewhere. It’s unfortunate that they have to pave everything over in the process, but that’s progress I guess.
I have a particular loathing however for developers who tear down churches or rip up meadows or civil war battlefields to spread yet more execrable “high end” sprawl. Trailer parks, cheap apartment buildings, and butt-ugly commercial strip-mall development are a necessary evil. Luxury condos are not. There’s plenty of housing available for the rich. They don’t need luxury squatter’s rights to plop their ostentatious condos and McMansions all over the landscape. If they ditch some of their silly toys and tasteless tchotchkes, they’ll fit right into the cramped little hovels the rest of us live in. We can raise their taxes if they can’t figure out how.

I hope you've all been keeping up with Gettysburgh or are you REALLY of the thought that OH YEA we NEEDS US a casino in every corner?>>

Because, when you get out of your car at Gettysburgh if you have the right ears and eyes (and I DO, whether I like it or not; I didn't apply for it you know, I"m STUCK WITH IT, my lot in life like some's lot is to be an asshole. Everyone should do what they do best. LOL)
Anyhooooo.... when you exit your car at Gettysburgh the spirits and souls of the (mostly) young men are still sighing, singing and shrieking on the wind .... spun me around in every direction ....

You can't make out a single voice; it's a cacophony of pain and regret tinged with the utter joy that America is one land, not South America and North America all on one continent like North, South Korea, Vietnam, East/West Germany .. etc ....

I have tons more to say today but... cfrost touched me the other day and I didn't want it to disappear ...

I can't talk of it right now but I did take out a BIG piece of butcher block paper and etch onto it all the words of someone who felt about the spot as I did. And, I left some of my Mama there. (a high compliment) AND, then I visited the cemetery .... pennies on every headstone.
