Some activists who have responded to the ANSWER Coalition Action Alert to “Stop Government Attacks Against the Anti-War Movement” and “Defend Free Speech” have been given misinformation when they called the DC Department of Public Works. We all know the government lies about the reasons for going to war in Iraq - an action which led to the deaths of thousands of U.S. troops and hundreds of thousands of Iraqi people - so we should not be surprised when they lie about other matters.

Below are the myths being propagated by the DC Department of Public Works and the facts about the District of Columbia Municipal Regulations (DCMR) regarding “Signs, Posters and Placards.”

Myth: Posters in DC may only be affixed to wood poles using staples.
Fact: That is not true. The law states, “Any sign, advertisement, or poster that does not relate to the sale of goods or services may be affixed on public lampposts or appurtenances of a lamppost, subject to the restrictions set forth in this section.” What is a lamppost? The law states that “For the purposes of this section, a ‘public lamppost’ is any public post erected for the purpose of supporting electric wires.” The Notices of Violation sent to the ANSWER Coalition from the DC Department of Public Works state that they are for “posting notices on lamppost” and then include photographs of posters on traffic boxes. Therefore, DC regulations clearly state that posters may be affixed to both the light posts called lamp posts and to traffic boxes.


Myth: The posters in question have been affixed with a permanent adhesive or one that is very time consuming and/or difficult and/or expensive to remove.
Fact: This is a complete lie. The law states that “Signs, advertisements, or posters shall be not affixed by adhesives that prevent their complete removal from the fixture, or that do damage to the fixture.” Therefore, an adhesive can be used to affix posters as long as it does not “prevent their complete removal” or “do damage.” All posters in question have been affixed with a water-based and water-soluble paste. To mix it, a bucket is filled with water and a small amount of powder is added to create the paste. The posters can be quickly, easily and completely removed for free simply by adding water. Volunteers have in the past removed these posters following events and found that they are removed just as easily and quickly as they are affixed.

Myth: Regulations in DC are enforced fairly and against all groups.
Fact: The ANSWER Coalition is being selectively targeted by the DC Department of Public Works for entirely political reasons. Volunteers have been putting up posters for anti-war events initiated by the ANSWER Coalition in this exact same manner for the past six years and we have never been fined. Other political organizations put up posters throughout the city all of the time in this same manner and are not fined. Politicians and commercial and business interests put up posters throughout the city all the time and are not fined.

The truth is that the government, and in this case it is a combination of the local and federal government, are acting politically and thus in an unconstitutional manner. The ANSWER Coalition has been putting up posters for six years without incident. Suddenly, on the eve of a massive anti-war demonstration scheduled for September 15 and timed to coincide with the report by General David Petraeus that will be used to justify the prolongation of a war that the country has turned against, the government is choosing to impose huge fines for literature that is being posted lawfully.

That is why thousands of anti-war activists from around the country are sending letters, emails and making phone calls to the District of Columbia insisting that they stop the selective attack of the ANSWER Coalition and the anti-war movement.

We encourage everyone to ask their friends, family members, co-workers and family students to go to www.Sept15.org to participate in this important campaign and not to believe the government’s lies and justifications for their illegal and unconstitutional effort to disrupt the September 15 organizing effort.

We also want to increase the effort to spread the word about the September 15 Mass March on Washington. If you are in the DC area, call 202-544-3389 x14 to become a volunteer. If you are outside of DC, fill out the Literature Order Form and we will send you flyers, posters and stickers.

Like with TPD and HCSO they've been ushered out and the ne0-more-nazi nazis have goose-stepped in. I even see a guy regularly who stalks around after me at a family member's place of employment wearing those Hitler-esque high boots. I mean real high. It's really silly looking. AND it doesn't bother me.
It does make me laugh.

I see too many 'watch out for biker' stickers proudly displayed with the 'bush' or the 'w' stickers. Why is that?

I'm gonna tell you why in my unforgivable way: It's because he has opened the door for them to perform. In Nazi Germany the bikers WERE the gestapo. Sure, not all of them. I know bikers that are extremely cool. Others -- the mask has fallen off completely. They're stalkers for the man. Property-grabbing, mean, small folks working against humanity. And, of course, they and George are scratching each others' backs.

They're just alike. Mean, wily, crafty --- not too smart. (george is MEAN) They think they don't have to be smart or someone told them that way back. OR they got into drugs too young and never wandered back out like ya kinda need to do when you grow up. Unless you're in it for the money and all which --- hey, that's your choice.
It's small wonder that all these groups found each other.

WASHINGTON — The Justice Department is putting the final touches on regulations that could give Atty. Gen. Alberto R. Gonzales important new sway over death penalty cases in California and other states, including the power to shorten the time that death row inmates have to appeal convictions to federal courts.The rules implement a little-noticed provision in last year's reauthorization of the Patriot Act that gives the attorney general the power to decide whether individual states are providing adequate counsel for defendants in death penalty cases. The authority has been held by federal judges.Under the rules now being prepared, if a state requested it and Gonzales agreed, prosecutors could use "fast track" procedures that could shave years off the time that a death row inmate has to appeal to the federal courts after conviction in a state court.

Here's the rest.

Probably you don't know anyone on death row. Me neither, that I know of. And certain of you will even be THRILLED about this. This is great. *you're thinking* Families could pressure the prosecutors to call Al and we could ram those guys and gals right into the gas chamber. Hell they don't deserve any appeals. No one LIES. No one would ever witness against someone and later recant. Mistakes are never made.

This is the bifold of declaring DNA PERFECT. Convict you with DNA and you are gone. How many of you toss out your straw? Good. Let someone get angry with you and collect that and plant your DNA anywhere at any crime scene.

It's just crazy how someone could end up on death row for no reason.

But, obviously it has happened over and over in America.

Now Al and co. will be able to shut em up before their family can help them. Or get an appeal. How soon before this extends to lifers??

They're already harvesting organs from lifers. Say the lifers are willing. I dunno about that. I don't know any lifers and maybe some of those lifers don't know anyone to help

Surge or Oil Contract ???

Right, this guy who 'happens to be' the iraqui oil minister is kidnapped at gunpoint because of the surge. Yeah. OR, maybe because a certain someone has been unable to force the Iraqui government into signing over Iraq's OIL TO HIM.

BAGHDAD - Dozens of uniformed gunmen in 17 official vehicles stormed an Oil Ministry compound in Baghdad and abducted a deputy oil minister and three other officials, a ministry spokesman and police said. Outside the capital, two suicide truck bombers separately struck a strategic bridge and a complex housing a small religious minority, killing at least 19 people, police said.
The attacks came as 16,000 U.S. and Iraqi troops began a new operation north of the Iraqi capital targeting insurgents who have fled a crackdown in the restive city of Baqouba, the military said Tuesday.

Answer Coalition threatened for posting signs

Act Now to stop War and end Racism has been threatened with 10,000 and escalating fines for posting the fliers for the Sept. 15th March for Impeachment. Clearly, this is an abomination and an outrage against the right to free speech.


The fines come after a campaign led by FOX news calling for the DC government to take action against those putting up posters for the September 15 demonstration. Tens of thousands of dollars in additional fines are expected in the coming days. Bush’s Interior Department is threatening similar actions against ANSWER. The September 15 posters are legal and conform to city regulations.
This is part of a systematic effort to disrupt the organizing for the September 15 Mass March that is timed to coincide with the report of General Petraeus and the debate in Congress on the Iraq war. Iraq war veterans and their families will lead this dramatic march from the White House to the Congress on September 15. The last thing the government wants is to see the streets of Washington DC fill up with throngs of anti-war protesters right in the middle of the debate. But we will not be stopped. Organizing for this demonstration is taking place in cities and towns throughout the country.

Please utilize this form to contact your rep and object to this behavior. The signs they are using are legal and conform to all city regulations. This is an obvious attempt to stop people from gathering in support of impeachment.

This impeachment drive is supported by Ramsey Clark, former Attorney General. I'll probably be there.

You should be too.

Stick up for yourself and your City County WATER

With all due respect; WHY do you live in Tampa? IS it so a former wrestler, a thief and a mean woman can tell you what to do?? Is it so someone else can decide what water will be fit for saving?
Look around Tampa, people. There IS very little water left for 'the people' to get to. All surrounded with development for the exclusive use of private land owners, condos, etc.
The Mayor of Tampa, despite library closures, etc... insists on paving the river and dotting the landscape along it with a few lowslung residences. BUH BYE river.
She's well WELL aware of my blog. She stated that the police and fire (largest PORK areas in Tampa) would be protected in the budget cuts .... WHY do you think that is? I'll tell you why.
THEY are the ones who protect her. Wives, relatives, sisters are the measly (counted) few thousand votes that 'swept' a mayor in to office again to the jeers of an unhappy 'constituency'.

That's a different subject you might say. No really, it's all the same.

Do you really seriously believe they're not all laughing at you over dinner at the club???

A few of them pulling all the strings. That makes me feel stupid. How's it make you feel? It's very discouraging to watch them get away with it. All the way up through the federal court system. Bought and paid for.

At the very least --- go stand with U-Can and be at the Hillsborough County Commission meeting this Thursday from 9--11 am. Maybe four bucks for parking, an hour or two of your time.

Shell Games with OUR Money

I've really grown some respect for Mariella Smith who currently blogs over at Sticks of Fire. Her commentary is always succinctly correct and she's not afraid of the truth.

Two things which I respect a great deal.

The third thing I respect is that she seems to genuinely give a damn about Tampa and Hillsborough County. (although I believe she lives in south county) She has to come to Tampa to deal with the County Commissioners and that alone is enough to give her honorary residency for purpose of supporting her TRUTH.

I can't even say that's true about me anymore. I've pretty much given up on Tampa. Just pay me and I'll go, when I'm ready. I can't look at any of you anymore and you know who you are. You're sickening and this really went too far.

But, while I'm STILL here I'm going to highlight Mariella's ongoing efforts to reveal the truth and to save our wetlands in any way that I can.

I'm (extremely) lucky enough to have a few national connects and there really ARE people out there who are still doing an ethical job. Fortunately I am linked to several A-list blogs and I get many readers who have influence. As well, we at Vox blog at Zimbio because any exposure to get the word out --- is good exposure.

People KNOW about Tampa.
And it's not pretty anymore.
And it hasn't been for some time.
No one in the world should have to live as I and others do fighting to keep their homesteaded property. NO ONE should have to hear a former City Council now a County Commissioner say that they have overstayed their welcome in their homes. While hers is safe from the bulldozer.
Why is MY family and THAT family less than her family?? Clearly this is against the fundie right wing religious philosophy that those folks support.
NO ONE should have to look at those the city chooses to obtain the civil servant (read that word SERVANT again) positions throughout the city of Tampa, County of Hillsborough and see that they are thieves and involved in all types of criminal activity. (which, of course, is WHY they are chosen)
No ONE should have to watch old high-school friends walk around with gas-cans and hairy eyes threatening to burn her house down. And, there SHOULD be someone to call. Right here in Tampa. You try that. Give the Mayor's office a ringy dingy. Get Southwick on the phone.

I do not trust the voting process in Hillsborough County. One after the other absurdities and errors and outright BOUGHT SILENCE has led us to County Commissioners and City Council members who throw Tampa under the bus.

Recall them.

Fire the voting supervisor. People act like we are stuck with these folks til the next election. They would have you believe that but it's simply not true. You can stop them legally and efficiently with a recall. Don't waste your time at the Commission hearings. Collect signatures before they move on to Senator positions in Florida and really screw you. Calling on the FDLE to investigate the TPD. What a joke. What an INSIDE JOB.

Insist that the REAL FBI get involved (can't help you there; I know that they are part of the problem in Tampa) Been given too many significant looks as my family and I enjoy the Museum of Art on a sunny Saturday, FBI badge prominently displayed.

Anyway, help Mariella reveal the truth by speaking of it.
