Wiki Got the Best of me nah nah

UPDATE --- here's a post listing all the spots that covered this story (Wiki-Gate roundup) AND here's a pretty good summation of the idiocy of these dang people: Lessons for Republicans. (as usual I must disclaimer for my Republican friends who just don't realize they are really Democrats, and yeah I have words with the BF about this, too but there are MANY decent Republicans and I love some of them!)

I mean stick to your story and all but for god's sake Jeff, when there's photos and/or IP #'s, give it up. Put a fork in it. (are ya listenin' Tampa??)
AND, kudoes to my bevered Howard Troxler at TroxBlog and to PoHo Wayne Garcia who coined Wiki-Gate. Good one, Wayne.

There's a HUGE STORY being shoveled over by most of the MSM (the usual suspects of Tampa Trib and SPT) concerning Fl. Lt. Gov. Jeff Kottkamp editing some badddd stories about himself out of the Florida Progressive Coalition website (of which I am a proud member) run by Dave Harper .. the links in fact were to a conservative publication. Fl. Lt. Gov. Jeff Kottkamp says he was just editing biographical information but first he TRIED not having any knowledge of the matter at all while state employees stonewalled Dave Harper who had traced the IP back to the Lt.Gov's staff asst's computer. LOL!!!!!


Finally (okay after Dave Harper threatened to file complaints) Kottkamp had to admit his duplicity but in typical (not a true) Republican (not a true) fashion his backup story was this: "I clearly don't know what I'm doing." (it IS refreshing to see one admit it)

Eh, well, but he IS an accomplished liar. That seems to be getting him places.

Oh and just for laughs, I THOUGHT I remembered something about his vision:

Removed were text and links to negative stories about the former legislator, including one from The Miami Herald that reported the state had paid $50,000 in 2004 to settle an age-discrimination lawsuit filed against Kottkamp by a former aide. (whoo he's a swell guy, ain't he? Needed some young stuff/staff, I guess)

For weeks, bloggers and others who contribute to the Florida Progressive Coalition's political website wanted to know who ''vandalized' ' an entry about Lt. Gov. Jeff Kottkamp, removing information about an age-discrimination lawsuit filed against him.

The culprit in the Internet whodunit has emerged: It was the lieutenant governor himself.
Kottkamp insists he wasn't trying to do anything ''sinister,' ' but to update biographical information.

''To be honest, I've never done editing like that before,'' Kottkamp said Wednesday. ``I clearly don't know what I'm doing.'' (man I can't STAND IT when they try this one ---- playing stupid only works for george and not so much)

That answer is ''ridiculous, '' said Dave Harper, the manager of the FPC website, who lives in Orange County. He said the editing job was an attempt to censor information that made Kottkamp look bad.

Harper said that back in early May, someone went onto the group's website and changed a ''wiki'' note -- an entry that can be edited by the public -- on Kottkamp. Removed were text and links to negative stories about the former legislator, including one from The Miami Herald that reported the state had paid $50,000 in 2004 to settle an age-discrimination lawsuit filed against Kottkamp by a former aide.

Harper traced it back to a state computer. He called and wrote state officials and said he got nowhere until he threatened to report the incident to other officials.
He finally got a short letter from state officials acknowledging the computer used was registered to Larry Ringers -- Kottkamp's chief of staff. Harper posted all of this information on the FPC website.

When asked about the incident, Kottkamp acknowledged he had used his state-owned computer to view the site, which he had learned about from a Google search.
He said he spent five minutes trying to update his address and phone number on his biographical entry.
Harper is miffed that state resources were used to make changes to the entry.
''I feel very much it was censorship,' ' he said. "That kind of government-sponsore d censorship is very Orwellian.''
