As expected George Bush (ONCE AGAIN!!) states himself to be above the laws of America. Or as the Nation's John Nichols puts it: OUTSIDE the law.

Immediately John Conyers has responded with a threat to issue a Contempt of Congress Citation. At this point, with Conyers and Leahy speaking out so strongly on the illegal actions of this Adminstration which has consistently broken the law for six years I think it's safe to say that .... Team George could end up in handcuffs pretty soon. It's a C R I M I N A L action to refuse to answer to a subpoena. (and boy am I liking that for several personal reasons)

As you may know John Conyers was also involved in the Nixon era attempt to subvert the rule of law. I guess we all remember how THAT went !! LOL!!

Hmmm, another one by Kagro X which expands on why Conyers may be going for this angle instead of inherent contempt. Like me, he hopes that Conyers is exhausting all angles until the hammer comes down.
John Nichols explains: Committee chairs are permitted to issue subpoenas seeking documents and testimony. And, when the targets of those subpoenas refuse to cooperate, a Contempt of Congress citation -- outlining a criminal offense against the legislative branch of the federal government -- can be drawn up.
