Black Congress persons of the 108th Congress


A record number of 85 women serve in the 109th Congress: 71 in the House, 14 in
the Senate. An unprecedented number of black Members (43) are also serving. There
are 42 black Members in the House, including two Delegates, and one in the Senate. In
addition, there is a record 30 Hispanic Members serving: 26 in the House, including the
Resident Commissioner, and three in the Senate. Eight Members (five Representatives,
one Delegate, and two Senators) are Asian, Indian American (Asian), or Native
Hawaiian/other Pacific Islander. There is one American Indian (Native American), who
serves in the House.
This report will be revised at the commencement of the 110th Congress.

It's VERY EASY to knock a few out of the Oprah running. She's such a BUSH FAN and two of these black women are signed on to the IMPEACH BUSH H.R. 799. That knocks out long-serving and STAUNCH BLACK WOMEN AMERICANS Barbara Lee and Maxine Waters.

one is a Delegate. Twenty are Democrats, seven are women. Two Hispanic Members
are brothers, and two are sisters. Mario and Lincoln Diaz-Balart are Republicans from
Florida. Linda and Loretta Sanchez are Democrats from California.12
Currently, there are 39 black Members of the 108th Congress, two fewer than the
record number of 41 in the 104th Congress. All 39, including two Delegates, serve in the
House and are Democrats. Thirteen black women serve in the House, including two
Delegates.
Seven Members are of Asian or Native Hawaiian/other Pacific Islander heritage.

There are three American Indian Members of the 108th Congress. Two, one from

Oprah's Timing Obama's Books

For the LIFE of me I can't figure out how any one guy had time to be a DAD, a Senator, A husband, a Senator and an AUTHOR of two best-selling books.

THIS is why I have been highly suspicious that this black dude running for President did not even WRITE these books himself.

Either he cheated the people of Chicago or he cheated those who think he penned these tomes.

Maybe I SHOULD read more of them and see how much MORE was 'borrowed' from Adlai Stevenson.

I've read Obama's voting record and was not very impressed. I'm (of course) not the only one.

I keep hearing him called a Progressive, which makes me laugh. I have now discovered that he is a self-titled 'exceptional individual' or something that rings that same bell.

Huh.

From Talk Left I discovered rather quickly that there are plenty of well-respected, likely non-racist individuals who just don't BUY Obama's 'change' meme. Jeralyn opines on Matt Gonzalez' Count Me Out. Matt actually closely studied Obama's record rather than just reading it over quickly as I did and going .. HUH, WHAT about this man is progressive??

As I've expressed previously known neocons have brought that 'change' meme up to me over and over again. They're driving that 'change' train.

It's not necessarily PROGRESS to elect some black dude or some white chick person.

It's ONLY PROGRESS if they are progressive individuals without their feet mired in the same old shit.

Like most, I know he gave a stirring speech at the Democratic National Convention in 2004. I know he defeated Alan Keyes in the Illinois Senate race; although it wasn’t much of a contest (Keyes was living in Maryland when he announced).

Recently, I started looking into Obama’s voting record, and I’m afraid to say I’m not just uninspired: I’m downright fearful. Here's why:

This is a candidate who says he’s going to usher in change; that he is a different kind of politician who has the skills to get things done. He reminds us again and again that he had the foresight to oppose the war in Iraq. And he seems to have a genuine interest in lifting up the poor.

But his record suggests that he is incapable of ushering in any kind of change I’d like to see. It is one of accommodation and concession to the very political powers that we need to rein in and oppose if we are to make truly lasting advances.

THE WAR IN IRAQ

Let’s start with his signature position against the Iraq war. Obama has sent mixed messages at best. First, he opposed the war in Iraq while in the Illinois state legislature. Once he was running for US Senate though, when public opinion and support for the war was at its highest, he was quoted in the July 27, 2004 Chicago Tribune as saying, “There’s not that much difference between my position and George Bush’s position at this stage. The difference, in my mind, is who’s in a position to execute.”

The Tribune went on to say that Obama, “now believes US forces must remain to stabilize the war-ravaged nation – a policy not dissimilar to the current approach of the Bush administration

Giving him all the honest chances I gave anyone else .... I changed my mind TO John Edwards.

I open to Yahoo every day. EVERY DAY his name was there. Not even Clinton was given this much attention.

BUT, the thing is IF he had not dyed himself blue he would have been better for the closed minded folks.
