Bargaining Chips and Such

I've been doing some thinking about bargaining chips the last several days. And how I've never used them, really. Maybe once. Maybe now. I've always been lucky. People seem to just fall in with what I want because what I desire is normally one hundred percent WIN for everyone involved.

Anyway, I thought it might be an interesting story if I related to the world at large my family's connection to Katherine Harris's family. It seems there are only about 15 people in the free world who dig Katie and, of course, I couldn't tell you if I'm on that list --- I sure don't like the way she legislates and the whole vanity thing is .... not good. (she's a pretty lady, leave it at that and polish up the soul and the political acumen as in WE THE PEOPLE not we the corpoharratioins) BUT, I'm well-acquainted with her family and ever since I realized how close I came to buddying up to Julie Brown (who may be another perfectly great person whose legislative/honesty abilities are not up to par) I've been thinking a LOT about how closely related I am to various Republicans (and even love a bunch of em) and yet I share nothing of their beliefs. (the ones they are currently displaying, the party beliefs are somewhat sound if they adhered to them) And here I rerereiterate that I do not consider these neo-folk to be republicans. And, I wish you awesome republicans would stop letting them hang their hat in your house.

An extremely interesting facet in this tale is how their families sought my own out. We're rather simple people; powerful enough in our own right but more in the European way than in the brash sense that some Americans seem to need to strut their real or imagined power around. (what if god was one of us? Just a slob like one of us??)

Or, maybe it's just my family. Following my Grandfather's lead none of us have ever been big on the spotlight. We tend to avoid public arenas, amassing acquaintances, public office, spotlights ..... we're friendly but extremely private people. Way behind-the-scenes. Most of us are extremely reserved people. For all that we've been followed around all of our lives so life in a fishbowl has really not been that big a change for me.


So, you wouldn't catch me at a party with Katherine Harris and you wouldn't catch me trashing her in public. The only demos I have ever participated in are peace rallies and impeaching george and one other that's my business. LOL. Oh and a little street theater at george's house and various other george sightings.

What would the Harris family and other families want with mine?? The answer to that --- well, now THAT is one hell of a story.

Anyway, my family and Katherine Harris' family go way back. I'm keeping a close eye on things because the former CongressKitty was jousted from power and they're working their connections to vault back up the ladder by wielding/manipulating support for the upcoming power junkies on the next political go-round. (details escape me but I'll get em down here soon)

And, I'm wondering --- since the Harris family won't just take their millions and go quietly away and are working terribly hard to stay in power --- what this might mean for MY family??? So, I'm thinking of burnishing up our connection to all that's sorta powerful and it's been awhile.

Bargaining chips are only as good as the other party's ability to walk away.

Hey, buddy --- ya can't walk away from YOUR LIFE.

Anyway, back to bargaining chips: I've got TONS of them. Had most of them since I was four years old and younger.

Me to my Grandpa: (no seriously, I was of this mind) "Grandpa, people would NEVER do that --- people are good." and the weary shake of his head with the loving smile for his beloved granddaughter whom he left the world by the tail to. Oh yeah.

You know I still believe that people are good. I watched Shrek 3 last night and was heartened by the message of good King Arthur and the desperation of PC (charming) to kill Arthur and his idea. Ideas don't die. Each of the villagers began to toss aside their weapons and their hate for one another and life and remember their DREAMS !!! (to grow daffodils, to love one or the other, to raise horses, to be a traveling musician) One by one the weapons fell to the ground.

You've heard that saying?

Something like this: Have your weapons ready --- when the time is right you'll be able to use them. (i'm mishing it up)

I hoped and figured I'd go my entire life with those chips stacked up firmly behind me. Never even think about them truth told. But there's a big table in front of me just pulsating with hunger for some chips to be tossed.

What say you???

Oh by the way, before you tell someone to be diplomatic you should consider --- perhaps the time for diplomacy is LONG PAST. Be nice they tell us as they burn our country down.
