Although I can and do wax poetic. Or whatever. I'm not too big on the public aspect of the very powerful feelings associated with one's father, the overwhelming love, the pride in being his daughter. Lucky. I've always been lucky. I had the best childhood and more love than any one person deserves. When I needed someone there they were.
Hug your dad if you can. If you can't set aside some time and think of one or more happy things you know about him.
If he's scungy --- tell him you need better. No one told him how to BE a dad. Just tell him. Not everyone's as lucky as me.
I hope you are.
Happy Father's Day to all out there whom the day encompasses. That makes all of us ... In case he's not the dad you need try to treat him like he is --- see what happens. I read so much about the sad relationships people have with their dads and I want you to know: he's doing the best he can. It might not be enough but he is in there swinging. Give him all the help and love you can.
... located in the midtown desired redevelopment center just one block from the river. The City of Tampa and it's assorted city-sanctioned gang members need this property because it's in the middle of land they intend to develop for gambling facilities. LaS VEgas here in Tampa : Ta-Vegas or Tam-Gas. But it's going to cost YOU a helluva lot of money as they defend their criminal acts in federal court due to what they are doing to my family and I in the process of attempting to steal our home.

I like the way Cathy Salustri writes. There are many facets of her thinking that make me feel we were separated at birth. So, I was suprised to read that she seems to be defending the government's handling of Katrina and other things but more on that another day. I think she just must not know of everything that was DONE to the people of new orleans ... not just once but twice now to steal their homes to make way for casinos. (and of course, development) The first time FDR rode in to the WhiteHouse on the promise to fix things, thank GOD and all. And then there's THIS time. This Katrina.
Anyway, my comment got so long over there I realized it was a golden opportunity to just bring a link over here and put in a good word for the thousands and thousands of white/black/asian/greek/latino(all yall baby!!)/egyptian/arabic/muslim/jewish/ohmygod all of us THOUSANDS and hundreds of thousands of us (that I know personally) who do not harbor a single thought of racism or ethnocentrism when dealing with other humans.
Without a lot of organization inherent, here's my comment: (perhaps to be edited)
Well, forget the comment .. it got lost in the transfer.
Suffice to say I mentioned that I used the word black and always have. I feel the same way about being 'anglicized'. I'm not german. If there's a black guy wearing a red shirt I say 'the guy in the red shirt.' IF there are a black guy and a white guy both in red shirts I say 'the black guy'. I think lots of folks use the words descriptively.
My black black black friend Ellen who is not African American but a beautiful black American girl related to me that HER black family is much more biased against her brother's white chick than the girl's family is against the black boyfriend. Ellen and I expressed matching dismay at the ignorance of people and how awful it is when your own family embarrasses you with their actions. What if there are children later? Do you then treat your own family with bias? I used to think that achieving a higher level of education would help most understand others and then I met people whose level of education SHOULD have made them immune to racism.
This caused two awakenings.
a. higher education is a joke for some (including many of the physicians and attorney in Tampa)
b. I've been an 'eracist' since I've been able to form thoughts. you should have been too!! what went wrong? This is an atlarge question.
Race (the word as used in THIS context) is the problem here. Many of us are working extremely hard to remove this word from it's position of power to divide.
Since the 1940s, most evolutionary scientists have rejected the view that race is a biologically meaningful concept. Some argue that although "race" is a valid taxonomic concept in other species, it cannot be applied to humans.[2] Mainstream scientists have argued that race definitions are imprecise, arbitrary, derived from custom, have many exceptions, have many gradations, and that the numbers of races delineated vary according to the culture making the racial distinctions; they thus reject the notion that any definition of race pertaining to humans can have taxonomic rigour and validity. (from wiki not the best but certainly a thorough revelation of just how wrong it is to still be using this word when it's only purpose has ever been to divide.
It is a word utilized to define who is non-white for distinguishing who had civil rights within the framework of the Constitution of the United States. (keep that word HAD close by-- that's in the past) A long long time ago Abraham Lincoln helped refute this inclusion/exclusion. (despite what revisionist history you have now read you must only travel to gettysburg to behold his place in the hearts of the American people)
Why do you think they are working so hard to turn gettysburg in to a casino??
Since the word race now has no place in the culture of the United States (hey, we're created equal and all in case you missed that) perhaps we need to consider that those who are still draggin around this outmoded word and bandying it about in an effort to start a dialogue that MOST of America has already settled are part of the problem not part of the solution.
It could be that it really IS your heart that needs the work. Lots of the rest of us are just fine. I see black and white and all kindsa people ganged up and mingling everywhere I go.
The implication that TONS of us are harboring racist hearts is unrealistic. Look around.
Had to put in a word for the true the good and the wise. If you are around a lot of people harboring racism --- make new friends !! Friends (close) owned a gun dealing business once and the county sheriffs and tampa cops were always trying to drive the notion that a 'race war' was coming. As they encouraged whites to stockpile weapons. It's extremely irresponsible to drive hatred especially when you are in a position of public trust. (that was almost two decades ago)
Again, greet with suspicion and outright scorn anyone who tries to make you hate your fellow man.

You can always count on these guys to do the right thing. Sad that we now live in a time (temporarily) when you feel you must support those doing the right thing. You could kinda take it for granted pre-bush.
George. please resign and go home.
Please.

Okay, tell me if this sounds mercenary. I'm leaving out names and identities for now, and even some words to protect those who frankly don't deserve protection but having never been a RAT (like some) I just don't feel good about spilling people's filthy sides of their lives onto the WWW...
However -- (you knew this was coming, right??) -- I'm willing to disclose same for a fee. In fact, I'm going to disclose some of this in a book which will definitely be for sale very soon but if you'd like to know if your name or some similar aspect that identifies your smarmy and illegal acts towards me and my family have been mentioned I'd be happy to negotiate a fee with you. For the record, save your pennies if I've known you longer than thirty years. Out of respect for you and your family I'll leave your names out. Out of respect for you and your family I have remained silent. Apparently this same respect was not inbred in you. That's a pity but you and yours are safe with me. The ones who took it upon themselves to do your bidding against an innocent family are wide open just like they've left MY family wide open. Herewith I refer to my extended family and network many of whom are currently suffering at your hands. Be on notice.

Tis nobler to lose honor to save the lives of men than it is to gain honor by taking them.

You cannot win a War on Terrorism. It’s like having a war on jealousy.
I was born a citizen of the world and have remained such but along with that: I'm a long time Tampa resident. Mixed bag at that as I've seen life here from nearly all angles and while somewhere in there I became slightly indoctrinated, I'm not too proud of the way people have taken over this city and run it with an iron fist for all but some. This city is working hard on creating just two classes. Thems and them dont's and they are working hard to shove some families down into the gutter for reasons known only to them. Some might be as petty as jealousy, some might be politically motivated, some might just be stupid and all are wrong. I want to believe we can get better but that would entail some stuff that I have no control over. I only can control myself and my reactions to what occurs.
