CLEARWATER —
Tampa Bay Water's desalinization plant has hit two major milestones and will get a big financial reward in return. The plant has pumped an average of 20 million gallons of water a day for 12 months and has averaged 25 million gallons water a day for four consecutive months, officials said Monday.
As a result, Tampa Bay Water stands to receive $31.25 million (including interest) from the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFMUD). SWFMUD had pledged $85 million to help pay to build the plant but a quarter of the money had been held back until the plant achieved these performance benchmarks.
"The milestones are a very big step for Tampa Bay Water," said General Manager Gerald Seeber.

uncle ruckus, tell that to the pigs at city of tampa water who purposely taint the water to CERTAIN HOMES and THE JAIL from what I was told by a source. AND to low income properties. Also talk to the meth manufacturers. HOW MUCH WATER DO THEY USE and how much water is tainted by their dumping the leftover toxins???? RED TIDE MY ●●●.

This is something else. Two bureaucracies are playing with our money. Why do we let this happen to ourselves? Government has run a muck. It is time for a major overhaul.

I wish the Times, and the media in general, would stop making misleading statements like “Tampa Bay Water stands to receive $31.25 million (including interest) from the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFMUD).” – SWFWMD is not some obscure third party with a giving heart... neither is “The State” or “The Federal” Government. What TBW is getting is $31.25 million from “taxpayers”... apparently for meeting a “promise” – you call it a “milestone” - years behind schedule and at a cost to taxpayers of twice what was originally promised. Welcome to the NEW America; whereby even if you fail to honor your timeline to build something we don’t need, fail to meet your objectives as promised, and cost taxpayers twice as much as promised... you still get praised and paid off at taxpayer expense. Only in American politics and the NFL can management completely suck, yet get to keep their job. Like I’ve always said; there is no water shortage, only water politics.

good for them. i worked out there very briefly, but there are good people in maintenance and doing the day to day heavy lifting there. they care and are trying to make it run like it should...living in Florida, desalination is an absolute must. matter of factly it is going to need to be a global solution for the number of people we have on earth, to all have fresh water. you think wars over oil are bad, imagine a war over a dwindling supply of fresh water, not something we want for convenience, something we must have to live. potable water is a good thing and i'm glad we're getting in on the ground level here in tampa bay.
