Live rock music pummels the air, martinis flow, and the slot machines and blackjack tables are jammed with hopeful gamblers. It's just 7:30 on a Saturday night at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla., just north of Miami, and cars are clogging State Road 7 below the Seminole Hard Rock's glowing towers, ready to disgorge even more players.
But there's an added reason the Seminole Hard Rock complex is drawing such a horde of gamers these days: poker. Really high-stakes poker. Last spring, the Florida legislature changed the state's gambling laws to allow casinos and other gambling sites to eliminate the maximum bet a player can place to "buy in" to a poker game — a limit that just a few years ago was a paltry $2. As a result, venues like the Seminole Hard Rock, which is located on a Seminole Indian reservation and operated by the tribe, are suddenly magnets for professional poker players like Michael "the Grinder" Mizrachi, one of the best-known poker faces in Florida, who calls the state's new no-maximum rules "a dream come true. There's nothing better than playing poker with beaches." The World Poker Tour (WPT) — the series of televised poker tournaments that helped launch the big-time poker boom in 2002 — agrees. Almost immediately after the law changed this year, the WPT swooped in and struck a deal with the Seminoles to hold a televised tournament next April at the Hollywood casino — where it will cost $10,000 just to sit at the table. TAMPA - Steve Cole, the spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Tampa, was arrested over the weekend charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence, public records show.
“It was an unfortunate incident, and I plan to deal with it responsibly through the court system,” Cole, 53, said in a phone interview this morning. (WHAT HE MEANT IS THAT IT WOULD BE DISAPPEARED POST HASTE)
Jail records show Tampa police arrested Cole about 9:37 p.m. Friday at North Florida and East Linebaugh avenues. He posted $500 bail on Saturday.
His blood alcohol content level was .118, jail records show. A person is considered impaired if their blood alcohol content level exceeds .08. Cole had rear-ended another driver who was waiting for the traffic light to change, a criminal report affidavit states. Police noticed Cole’s eyes were glassy, his speech was slurred and that he smelled of alcohol, the affidavit states.
Cole declined to comment further about the arrest, except to say his supervisor is aware of the situation. He previously had planned to be off this week from work and will return to work on Monday.
May will mark Cole’s eighth year as spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Gunman opens fire during Fla. school board meeting

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (AP) -- A gunman opened fire during a Florida Panhandle school board meeting Tuesday, police said.
Panama City police Sgt. Jeff Becker said one person was shot, but he would not say if it was the gunman.
Board chairman Ryan Neves told the Panama City News Herald that no school board members were injured.
WMBB television reporter Nadeen Yanes told her station that the man came up to the podium at the Bay District School Board meeting and said he had a motion. He then pulled out a can of red spray paint and painted a V with a circle around it.
Yanes told the station he pulled out a handgun and started talking. She said school board member Ginger Littleton hit the gunman with her purse and he pushed her to the ground and started firing randomly.
Yanes and others ran outside. Police had no additional information about the condition of the person who was shot.
Beth Deluzain, executive director of the Bay Education Foundation, works on the second floor of the building. She said she was not told to leave and things seemed to be under control, though the building was surrounded by police.
"Apparently whoever did the threatening is not a threat at this point," she said.

"Everyone is shocked and concerned. We had no indication that this sort of thing was occurring," said City Manager Bill Horne, who hired Geer six years ago and fired him Monday.
"You never know what demons people deal with," said Mayor Frank Hibbard. "Now Jamie's gone and we have to move forward. I hope they get help for the victim and that he gets some help."
Hibbard was reminded of St. Petersburg City Council Chairman John Bryan, with whom he served on a county transportation board. Bryan committed suicide in 2007 after it came out that he had fondled his 15-year-old adopted daughter. It came as a shock to his colleagues.
"You just never know about people," Hibbard said.
Pinellas court records show that Geer and his wife, Merinda, divorced in late October. Merinda Geer, now Merinda Johnston, filed for divorce in 2006, but the case was dismissed in 2008 after more than a year of inaction. She refiled in November 2009.
The FDLE said Geer did not use his position as fire chief in this case, and investigators don't believe there are other victims.
Of the victim, FDLE agent Madden said, "For the last nine years of her life she has been subjected to various forms of sexual assault by an individual 50 years of age. That is a very traumatic event. I think the victim has a lot of issues that she's going to be dealing with for an extended period of time."
The allegations against Geer were first reported in an anonymous letter sent to the FDLE in September. According to an arrest warrant, here's how the investigation unfolded:
After receiving the letter, the FDLE spoke to an unidentified witness who said that in April 2008 the victim told her that Geer was abusing her.
The witness confronted Geer days later. The chief "apologized and said it would not happen again," but the alleged abuse continued until this August, the warrant said.
Investigators spoke to the victim and Geer on Nov. 4. Both denied the allegations. Then, 20 days later, the victim contacted investigators and said Geer had been abusing her for years.
"She denied the allegations when she was first interviewed because she did not want to get Jamie Geer in trouble," the warrant said.
The victim told investigators that it started when she was 8 or 9, when Geer first exposed himself to her. Geer was 50 when he first engaged in sex acts with the victim in 2004, the warrant said. It doesn't say how old the victim was.
On Dec. 1, investigators had the victim call Geer and recorded their conversation.
The victim told him she needed "closure," the warrant said. Geer asked if it was "safe to talk."
The victim asked Geer why "anything happened." Geer, according to the warrant, responded: "He never did anything against her will and he was sorry if he put pressure on her or made things difficult."
Geer also told the victim, the warrant said, that "he should have known better" and that he "tried to do the right thing" and that he was "sorry" that she was struggling with what happened, according to the warrant.
But during the recording, the warrant noted, Geer "never denied having sex."
Geer had been a fire chief in Tennessee when Clearwater hired him in 2004. He was brought in to modernize a flawed department that was still reeling from the aftermath of a 2002 fire at a condominium high-rise that killed two residents and injured three firefighters. The department was criticized for its handling of that fire, and Geer's first move was to institute extensive training reforms.
Geer's hiring was supported by Clearwater's firefighters union, but the union's relationship with the chief soured in recent years.
Union president Gerard Devivo heard about the allegations through an e-mail that the city manager sent to union members Monday afternoon. "I just feel bad for the girl's family and the girl," he said.

1. There are sexual assualts on kids under the age of one. 2. St. Pete Beach PD have (or used to have) a a cop assigned to child abuse only. Guess what - molesters go on vacation and want to molest during their vacation. Their idea of a "good time".3. A Treasure Island cop told me that a lot of pedophiles go to the beach.....because that is where the kids are.

This is an everyday occurence around the nation. It is either child molestation or animal abuse. I read a story about a teen that had sex with his family dogs and molested a young girl in Ft. Walton. When will this behavior end? Or, will it? It is just sickening to me.

Just hink of all of this that happened decades and centuries ago and was never reported. it has only been in the last 20 to 30 years that we have rightfully started to take these things very seriously. ifa child made these accusations 100 yrs ago, it would have been athe child that was whipped silly. even in this age of better enlightenment and understanding of child sexual abuse, there are still those who insist upon doing these things and thinking that they can get away with it. this, thank God, will not be the case with this weirdo.

We had the Tarpon Springs fire chief fired for staggering around drunk at the the scene of a fire that left a doctor dead, a Tampa FireDepartment inspector who lost one gun and his replacement used by his son in a home invasion shooting and now this! They've stolen A LOT OF property and hidden it under different names and delisted some of it by giving it to exwives to 'hang on to' "unlisted" due to being fireman's wife. TONS. TONS. This guy is sick. He would be hanging tomorrow in Saudi. Our society is too passive to fight crime. That is why we have these type of crimes over and over.

that's exactly what they are doing. It sounds implausible due to all the history between he and the firemen and you read up there .. wifey got her a new man cuckolded hubby .. now HER new man wants him outta there... voila !! Easier than planting drugs and guns.
